Please add Asuswrt-merlin to GT-BE98 (Non-pro) version

Hello whoever will read this.

Don't know If this is the best place to voice my situation, but I do wish for the GT-BE98 non pro version to be supported by Asus-Wrt Merlin (non fork).

I currently own the RT-AC5300 and have done so for years, have a nice home network all setup until this year I got wind that my router won't be supported by the end of this year...

In little country called New Zealand there currently is black friday special going on... so I decided to guy buy the only wifi7 Asus router I can get a hold of... guess which one is the only one I can purchase? The only one which is not supported by merlin software

It's a conundrum which I have decided to in the end of contemplating decided to buy the non supported model knowing only forks are supported...

I'd just like to add my support for getting this model added added please... I worry it won't be for the life of the product (which can be quite a few years with how well the old one lasted...)

Q: Will you add support for model XYZ?
A: The decision whether or not to support a new model depend on a long list of factors, which may evolve over time. Right now:

- It needs to be Broadcom-based
- It needs to be widely available (not just in two or three countries)
- It needs to have high-end hardware so I don't have to fight with lack of flash or RAM
- It needs to receive frequent enough GPLs so I won't have to regularly skip it due to the GPL being outdated
- I need to have one
- I need to have the time to try supporting it
- I need to have the motivation to try supporting it

Each new model requires its own dedicated support. That means every time I work on a new firmware release, I have to work on each separate model, and I need GPL releases from Asus for each individual model, and I need to merge each of them separately. So that means if I support 10 different routers, then I need to merge in the content of 10 different GPL releases, and these need to be close enough to one another to still be compatible. The more models I support, the harder this is to accomplish, therefore I am VERY conservative regarding adding any new model.

So don't ask if/when a new model will be supported. I cannot speculate about future model support, and until I have working support for a model, I cannot answer that question.

See the read me first link I provided. It explains the process RMerlin generally uses to determine support for a router. The GT-BE98 likely won't be supported by RMerlin. You'll have to use the GNuton fork.

The GT-BE98 cannot be sold in North America for regulatory reasons, any shipped device sample might get rejected at the border. That's why Gnuton is taking care of it since he lives in Europe.

Which is why tried to strategize and buy the Asus BT10 - The BT10 high-end enough, is sold across the world (not limited to US 6 GHz frequencies),

I will take Gnuton if I can - I'm already sick of the Asus BT10 VPN Fusion, its mindlessly limited - Can't wait to get VPN Director, along all the other merlin goodies of efficient and effective code. The BT10 is stable and usable now (stress-tested and I can concur), after the Nov 06 Asus firmware release.

The idea is to split supported models between us as I don`t have the time nor the will to support all models on my own. It`s the same firmware code.

gnuton's support for GT-BE is very weak, slow, and for example, aplha hasn't released it for GT-BE86 yet.

GT-AXE16000 does not come out 3.0.0.6 FW. One year old top router. I am at a loss

This one doesn't have stock 3006 firmware yet. You can't expect Asuswrt-Merlin 3006 for it.

Both developers are donating their free time to you guys. What they create is an option, not a problem. Your routers are supported by the manufacturer. If you believe Asus provides better support with their entire team of developers - it's there.

The GT-BE98 would be a fantastic replacement for my aging main router RT-AX88U.

I bought the GT-BE98 to troubleshoot and get to work the fancy ROG LED features none of my other routers have. It essentially sat for weeks unused because there was no Gnuton firmware release available. Which I desperately needed to be able to run my scripts on it. Stock FW cannot do that as you know. You are aware in which forum you’re posting, right?

Since there was no Gnuton release i got desperate - and extremely mad because I read that @Adamm was using it to test it on his router. Eventually I found out about Actions on Github, that’s where he got the beta versions from.

Since then a few runs have been successful but the latest version is still buggy. There are hardly any info available about an ETA of a final release.

It’s been many months and I only turn it on to test things or find new bugs.
I hate to say it but I made a very bad choice to buy that router. Never again will I trust that a fork of Asuswrt-Merlin will have a timely release.

This is my personal frustration and I understand that @GNUton is busy fixing bugs - when time allows.
I lament the fact that I bought an - as of then - unsupported router. I do not blame @GNUton for my mistake.

That may help but certainly does not buy time off of his main job.
I myself am often in that situation. A (great) full time job that often requires me to do 120% - and travel all over the globe often leaves me with my hands up in the air wishing I was retired already

We were initially told that updated GPL would be available in August or September (I forgot the exact date of that first missed ETA), and as of today the latest ETA we have is "They will be built once the code is ready". August/September is very close to July, so it makes sense that he would have decided to wait then,

I was able to track down at least one of these (the broken DNS over TLS). Some of these issues are outside of our control to fix. 3006 is still (as of the GPL that we have to work with) in a very rough shape. I decided to go ahead and release anyway. Gnuton decided to wait. Both our decisions are perfectly valid, whether people like them or not. We both get flaks from different users for our respective decisions.

Considering AiCloud's history, I am wondering if getting rid of it might not be a good idea. There are a now far better alternatives to achieve similar results (free/inexpensive cloud services, Plex, Jellyfin, a VPN, etc...) Anyone for whom losing AiCloud in Asuswrt-Merlin would be a deal...

and now i think 60-70 % are not buying a new router because of no merlin support and were they think gnuton isnt any better because of no main stream devolper.
would love to test gnuton firmware but i have currently no money to buy a new router, because of no work in germany with war and trump...
and as Tech9 says its freetime, this board is up for years and only 2 main devolpers wich support frmware, hey, start your coding skills if you have freetime yourself and support all here
