Hi.
I have Merlin 380.68_4.
Do I need to make a factory reset after updating at 382.1?
I also use oVPN...
If you use openvpn then I would say yes. The changes to openvpn were many. You could also default the openvpn component and then reconfigure but not as good as factory reset.

Ok, no problem.
Then:

1) Save configuration on a nice notepad... ;)
2) Reboot my RT-AC88U.
3) Factory reset (where is it in the menu)?
4) Update with 382.1.
5) Reconfigure everything by hand.

That's all? ;)

Factory reset is under administration and firmware update. That's perfect procedure for a flash.

Ok, thanks!
Last question: now I have a 80 MB download VDSL and with ExpressVPN download is 40 MB on oVPN 256.
You are sure that with this new firmware will not worsen performance? ;)

When viewing the list of clients connected under Network Map > View List, the MAC address is populating the client name instead of using the netbios name. This seems to occur for most devices and various OS. It leads to further problems when say you’re defining openvpn client policy routing. The colon in the MAC address is not an acceptable character so you have to rename it.

Device: RT-AC86U
Firmware: 382.1

So it looks to be a display issue on the 'View List' table. Using the Asus router app on Iphone, it displays the correct NetBios name and not the MAC address like in the webui.

IMHO I think the performance has been rumoured to increase not decreased. Like I said though if you are using openvpn do a reset after flash.

Somehow with the latest beta and the final my VPN stops suddenly.

Export OpenVPN configuration file
OpenVPN server daemon failed to start.
Please check your device environment or contents on the Advanced Setting page.

I can start it and connect for the first minutes, but after some more the server stopped working. Can't find anything in the log now after I am back at home.

Did you reset to factory defaults after you flashed to 382.1? Eric says to try that first to resolve any weirdness.

No, had no time till now. Will try that the next time it happens. Perhaps the reboot fixed it :)

@RMerlin

I'm having my syslog flooded with:

"Nov 12 16:16:28 kernel: dhd_prot_ioctl: status ret value is -20"

What is referring too? Thanks!

I recently picked up the 86u and the performance is great but I was having an issue on the stock firmware and was hoping this would fix it. It still seems to be around.
I'm trying to rename the clients and change their icons but they never save. I renamed about 10, but then everything after that just changes back to whatever was originally there for the name. Anyone know a fix?

I am just wondering if this RAM consumption is normal (see Attachment):

Model RT-AC86U

OK; I do not see anywhere the information I need. I have a virgin Asus RT-AC86U sitting under my Christmas tree. Can I upload this new Merlin firmware next month and good to go or do I need to reset / reflash / reboot / do a dance / etc. etc.

I'm seeing the same thing on my AC3100 in media bridge mode. I'm not having any issues though.
Me neither, but I see a small raise of CPU usage and CPU temp

I just went through this with the latest firmware to Merlin's. Reboot, flash, and restore to factory default. You're good to go after that. Enjoy!
