Is there a proper step by step update procedure to the firmware? Now that I have everything working perfectly, I would rather not risk messing it up by doing a straight up update.

As far as I understand:
1) Unmount the USB drive from the GUI.
2) Run the firmware update.

or do I need to do a factory reset and start all over again from A-Z after updating?

I recently mocked up a scriot to save and restore dhcp static list values. I will make it availble next week.

Flashed 384.10_2 this morning. All is well. Thank you, Eric.

All my routers are automatically rebooting after 384.10_2 update.
Right, I wasn't as clear as I could have been. I had one update fail a few months ago, so I manually rebooted the router and tried a second time (without removing USB drive), and it worked the second time. For 10_2, I didn't even reboot the router before updating, and yes, of course it rebooted itself after updating.

Thank you for that; I'll certainly check it out.

Xentrk also posted a link that looks helpful:

Once I get this working, then my Lan will be connecting to ExpressVPN, and when Im away from home, Ill be connecting remotely to my OpenVPN Server and taking advantage of all the goodies I just installed on the router (that's the idea anyhow lol :)
Is there some reason why you would use ExpressVPN and OpenVPN? I run an OpenVPN server on my router and use a DDNS (free) service to connect my MacBookAir or iPhone to my OpenVPN using the DDNS address.
If you need & have the bandwidth on your OpenVPN service, I suggest you use the following advanced settings on your OpenVPN:
proto udp4
fast-io
tun-mtu 9000
txqueuelen 1000

I use ExpressVPN to secure every device on my LAN. Occasionally I also need the different location that ExpressVPN offers.

I setup OpenVPN Server alongside so that I can connect to it remotely from my iOS devices and MacBook Pro in order to be secure naturally but to also take advantage of all the wonderful scripts installed on my router.

I also have DDNS configured.

What kind of bandwidth are we talking about?
What will the settings offer?

Thanks.

Doesn't look like it. I did the same thing and everything running as it should.

I'll make it habit of asking on these forums for each one though lol, just in case :)

I updated the f/w without unmounting my USB drive. Any harm done?
Nope. It's the other way 'round. Not unmounting your USB can sometimes result in not enough free memory to do the update.

Upgrade AX88U from V384.10 Final to V384.10_2 Final, via dirty flash. All appears to be working, except for the following:

  • Networkmap listing may be unreliable. (Bug in Asus's code) - RMerlin's Changelog
  • Under "Adaptive QOS" | "QOS", QOS Configuration was reverted to defaults and did not keep my customization settings
  • Under "Adaptive QOS" | "Bandwidth Monitor", any of my "Network Map" List clients that I normally had set from "Highest" to "Lowest" were all back to "Default" color
  • Under "Traffic Analyzer" | "Traffic Monitor", under "Daily", I have data from March and April, but when changed to "Monthly", I only see "April" Data graphs

@RMerlin Do i need to use the @FreshJR QoS script in order to have Adaptive QoS working or is it already integrated inside the firmware?

It is integrated within the firmware. The FreshJR QOS script just makes sure it actually runs correctly. ;)

3x AC86U and 1x AC68U updated to 384.10_2 last night. All good so far.

Under "Adaptive QOS" | "QOS", QOS Configuration was reverted to defaults and did not keep my customization settings

bwdpi_app_rulelist (and a few other BWDPI settings) reverting back to factory default after a firmware upgrade on some router models is a known issue. I haven't been able to track down the cause, so it may be something done by design by Asus within the closed source components to prevent compatibility issues between firmware upgrades.

Adaptive QoS is a feature of Asuswrt. FreshJR's script does not add that, it merely provides greater flexibility in tweaking it.

I have had several problems updating 384.9 to 384.10 and 384.10 to 10_2. The firmware progress bar said unable to update, wrong firmware. Did this update several times before I rebooted the router and it finally updated. I have a RT-AC86U router. Is anybody experiencing similiar issues? Never happened before 384.9.

Reboot before updating; recommended. :)

Many experience the same. Usually a matter of not enough RAM available to make the flashing of the new firmware work. ;)

Updated my AC86U from 384.10 to 384.10_2.

The router's web interface is extremely slow after the update.

Will (have to) reboot (again) soon...
