I own a Rt-Ac5300, is it worth a change to this GT one?

How better is the signal range and strenght?

Tks
Currently wsarahan.
If you own a RT-AC5300, stay with it for now. The code, even production is loaded with issues yet. Give it a year to work out. Also please note that MerlinWRT is not currently supported on on the GT.

Just to let you know that Asus are aware of the stability issues with 15564 and will release an updated version in the next week or so.
There is a beta version 15967 floating around that adds VPN Fusion, Alexa and IFTTT - do not know how stable it is though.

Hey fellas,
trying to get OpenVPN with NordVPN to work... says it's connected, but no websites pulling up. Followed step-by-step procedure NordVPN is providing for Asus routers.

Using the desktop OpenVPN app with NordVPN i have no issues.
I use the same server through the GT, and I can not connect to any websites.

Anyone else having issues with getting OpenVPN to work?

3.0.0.4.382_12184-g4a5d7783

is it 12184?

Unfortunately, my IPVanish ovpn settings still do not connect me to the internet. I am unable to load anything on the internet. Has anyone been able to get their VPN settings working through the router?

Ok so after a little more fiddling, L2TP works with IP Vanish and my speeds are 103.19 Mbps down and 20.25 Mbps up. My advertised speeds are 100 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. Not sure the encryption level of L2TP, but it is working so I am happy.

1.1.0 introduces API changes, so it's not a drop-in replacement like 1.0.2 was for 1.0.0. Since Asus only went from 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 because I did the necessary legwork (and I also pointed out 1.0.0 was going EOL last year), I suspect they aren't gonna move to 1.1.0 on their own, and I can't do that move either due to the closed-source components linked against 1.0.x. Plus, believe it or not, but they use THREE different OpenSSL versions in their firmware, probably either for fear of breaking things, or due to arcane issues they encountered when moving everything to 1.0.2. The Broadcom modem driver for instance is linked against 1.0.0, and their Download Master stuff is linked against a third one (don't remember which version).

FWIW - recently felt much pain with OpenSSL 1.1 vs. 1.0.x...

Preparing to move a buildroot from debian 8.1 to debian 9.1 - and from xgene (arm) back to amd64 - much of this is due to the impending return of our build-box - so in a lab setup, tried to rebuild the toolchain with 9.1, just for kicks...

Quite a few errors - some functions in OpenSSL have been deprecated for some time, and 1.1 they basically killed them off - so quite a bit of debug, not just for our BSP, but for the reference BSP's - lede built ok, openwrt - not so much, but using the libssl-dev1.0 package got that working for OpenSSL issues... anyways, looking at dropping openwrt as a reference, as lede pretty much does the same thing but newer...

Outside of the OpenSSL thing with 1.1 - gcc 6.3 is a bit more strict, so a bit of cleanup work needs to be done there.

Yes, I'm having issues with openvpn as well. Let's see if those new firmwares fix the issue. Didn't have the chance to try any of them yet.

I tried 15984 and 15967 and neither one allow me to use open vpn. I could get it to work on my rt3100 but I no longer have that since I “upgraded”.

So it's not me or my VPN-Provider, it's this friggin' router?! Common ASUS, get it together.
Isn't this your flagship?

OpenVPN shows connected, but checking my IP it's not the one of the VPN-Server, but my actual one.

What the hell?

None of the official or beta firmwares work with openvpn from my experience. L2TP works but I get an assload of errors in the log with it it. The selling point for me was the VPN being able to route certain device and not all. I’m happy to see that built in now BUT openvpn doesn’t work so I’m still waiting. By the time this is all fixed I’ll be buying a new router I’m sure.

I returned my Synology 2600 because the beta firmware is stable but all the features still are not there. I’ll take the stability for now I guess.

Thanks MarkSW,
I loaded it up tonight. So far, I see no fix for the network map being only able to change about 10 devices only. Hopefully something later. Most likely see something after a 24 hour burn in period in the logs.

Sure.. Server, and client.. But client was back on the current firmware although I had to back off the client because I also use this router as a Verizon Fios Router, and none of my TV services would work. (DVR, Mobile Stream)

Again, I have nothing on port 6 nor 8. I only have a 16 port switch plugged into the router off port 7. The NTP has server has been moved to multiple NTP public servers now. I started seeing that error a few codes test ago.
I tried to use the feedback sent in via the TAB in the router. Looked like it was going but got this error instead....
