:( Any feedback:
  1. on this new firmware Version 3.0.0.4.378.9313 ; I try to learn from others before updating...currently on 3.0.0.4.376_3861.
  2. or on my new problem, inability to use Download Master on the USB drive?
I was not having problems with my RT-N66R [as primary router with FIOS,] until yesterday when my Download Master GUI failed; just a white page appears. Or, sometimes at http://192.168.1.1:8081/downloadmaster/task.asp, the gray background of the GUI appears but the only data is an up-arrow barely visible, and a thin horizontal line of blue towards top of page. The USB drive had dismounted as well. I reinstalled Download Master; I have rebooted router through the GUI; USB drive appears as mounted now. Scanning USB drive shows vol/dev/sda1 appears to be OK. Chkntfs returns 1. Using a WD 3.0 USB drive 1TB successfully for 2 years now.

Any thoughts on either/both questions? thanks! :)

My first idea is split into
  1. reboot and wait and see if the issue comes back.
  2. add a swap file (on the USB drive) as the router typically run out of memory with USB applications enabled.
  3. remove the problematic download from Download Manager causing the issue.
  4. update to the latest firmware version (it can make it only better if the first 3 topics did not help) :)

Thank you! Without making any changes, I've discovered that Download Master is working as usual; except that I can only see the Download Master GUI at 192.168.1.1:8081 from a wireless laptop on home network. My primary pc does show the router's main GUI; but selecting Download Master from the USB Applications, shows either a white screen, or just the familiar gray background with no data displayed. I've already tried uninstalling, then re-installing download master.

Any ideas on how to get download master's GUI to appear on my primary pc?

Have you tried using a different browser?

Thank you! so strange; using Explorer instead of Firefox, and the GUI appears!
Thanks very much for this solution!

How can that happen?

I find IE (as maligned as most of MS' products are) is the browser with the most chance of at least displaying a page, while firefox, chrome and other browsers are used simply because they have a feature(s) that IE doesn't. But in many cases, as in yours, these other browsers fail to do the simple job they were meant to do in the first place. ;)

I just installed this new firmware, but now I can no longer access the Admin page or any of my network devices. I've manually rebooted the router a couple of times. I really don't want to reset to factory defaults ...

The new firmware cause my wireless connection to discount.. Can reflash to the previous?

Has anyone successfully upgraded this new firmware version without problems?
What benefits have you gained?
Why would Asus release a troubled upgrade for an old router? I assume they would focus efforts on their new products only. Thanks!

There is allready a newer firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9459 available:
http://www.snbforums.com/threads/official-asus-rt-n66u-firmware-version-3-0-0-4-378-9459.29330/

At first the wireless driver for the RT-N66U has not changed since one year, that seems to be quite solid (although some users still report wireless issues).

Further on the RT-N66U benefits from the generic Asuswrt firmware which is equal (at least similar) for many router models. Bugs and enhancements are released for all more recent routers, as far as supported by the hardware of the specific router.

I am able since long time to keep pace with all firmware releases for the RT-N66U.

Issues with firmware are often related to specific user configurations or installation issues.

:D
Thank you! I had no problem installing the newer version 9459 from the Asus website and my RT-N66R seems to be working fine. Firefox browser continues to be unable to open the GUI for Download Master, and Internet Explorer continues to be able to open the GUI for Download Master; so I see no fix there. I just use Explorer now.
