Third option seems to be best, especially we almost never know fastest server in area of selected vpn server (for example i live in Poland and use Washington and Dallas server for vpn Clients).

Once again - third option is best for me and makes The work much easier.

P.s. I am looking forward to official update of spdmerlin[emoji3]

Feedback wanted! With v3, you can now configure multiple interfaces, e.g. WAN and VPN Client 1. Preferred Server feature was designed when a single interface existed, so in v3 the same server will be used for all tests. While this might be fine for local VPN Servers, a US VPN Server testing against a UK Speedtest site will be slower.

Choice are:

1) Do nothing, the behaviour of a single preferred server for all interfaces is fine
2) Implement a preferred server for each interface
3) Use preferred server only for WAN, VPN interfaces will use an auto-selected server

Please let me know your preference!

Option 2

I may adopt option 3 for the initial release of v3, so that I can actually release it.

I've realised the same scenario applies to the "choose a server" option, and I suspect people might also like to choose select which interface is tested for manual tests

The “develop” version of this script is so awesome! Love looking at the speed test as it is running for both my ISP and VPN servers. Great work @Jack Yaz!

Would be nice to get 3.0 version asap.[emoji1]

With current version i can’t even measure third of my bandwith (1 gbps)
Have huge expectations regarding to newest script!
Not sure how close to 1gbps you'll get with the Ookla binary - have you tried the develop branch?

Option two but happy to go with what works best for you and other users

I am seeing a missing file error on the v3.0 develop branch on RT-AC86U:
Code:
Choose an option: 1

cp: can't stat '/jffs/scripts/spdmerlin.d/ookla/speedtest-cli.json': No such file or directory
spdMerlin: Starting speedtest using auto-selected server for WAN interface

   Speedtest by Ookla

Server: Spectrum - Syracuse, NY (id = 16978)
        ISP: Spectrum
Latency: 12.67 ms (0.23 ms jitter)
Download: 480.76 Mbps (data used: 850.5 MB)
Upload: 23.15 Mbps (data used: 11.6 MB)
Packet Loss: Not available.
 Result URL: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/xxxxxxxxxx

spdMerlin: Speedtest results - Download: 480.76 Mbps (data used: 850.5 MB) - Upload: 23.15 Mbps (data used: 11.6 MB)

Press enter to continue...
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hm, that file should have been saved on accepting the speedtest license...found the bug and fixed, good find

Fixed. I reverted to "master", and then reinstalled "develop" after you patched.

ok, I managed it. As mentioned before my net is 1000/60

before update:
spdMerlin: Speedtest results - Download: 267.55 Mbit/s - Upload: 47.86 Mbit/s

after update
spdMerlin: Speedtest results - Download: 246.50 Mbps (data used: 231.0 MB) - Upload: 49.96 Mbps (data used: 64.0 MB)

the same server chosen to perform the test.

Equally it would have worked with the very last commit on develop - it'll check for the license in an old directory and move it, as well as me fixing the logic check of the file to load

Strange that you see lower perf on an AX88U than I do on an 86U. What happens if you let auto-select work on the new version?

same low results, i think there is some influence of installed scripts(i have owned almost all available scripts on amtm, 2 clients and one open vpn server running) that i have on my router and results obtained via spd merlin.

EDIT:

may it be USB disk speed issue?

Fire up htop while it is running, is CPU or Memory maxxing out? I think this might be a limitation of the current binary as noted by @ColinTaylor

WAN and VPN Speedtest are accurate to within 5 MBs and the WAN and VPN click to expand/collapse graphs under tools puts the cherry on top

Thank you very much [emoji3060]
