spdMerlin spdMerlin - v4.x - speedtest and bandwidth monitoring

I see that you could potentially run the speedtest over VPN, to check the throughput. It says VPNC1 to VPNC5, but they are disabled for me. Looking at the VPN page, the names of the interfaces are OVPN1 to OVPN5 and WGC1 to WGC5. Is it possible to select those to run the test on?

Interfaces should only show as disabled in spdMerlin if you don't actually have the respective client/interface configured over in the vpn section. If you do have a client enabled and spdMerlin wont let you select it, then it's a bug.

Unfortunately I don't have an asus router to develop with so i wouldn't be able to fix it.

Same applies to wireguard - it should be trivial to add to spdMerlin but I don't have a way to implement it. Somebody ask @Martinski reallly nicely

Would this work for you, @Shades? Just added the capability of testing either the WAN or VPN from the speedtest page in RTRMON...

Thanks for the tools, been using it for a long time to keep an eye on the service quality in case of issues to contact ISP to either fix or refund partially for bad service.

Have you looked into whether it may be possible to collect stats of actual bandwidth speed usage?

To help evaluate whether it's worth upgrade internet speed package.
I see QoS shows realtime Mbps and Traffic Analyzer only provides stats on total capacity used, similar to the the bandwidth monitoring script.

I feel this is what most people have a hard time to evaluate and thus often go with the fasted broadband just in case, or worse most don't realise they may only use a fraction of their max internet speed (on a regular basis).

The developer @Jack Yaz is no longer developing for Asus-Merlin. I believe his Asus router died and elected to go with PFSense. All of his projects are open source and are available on Github if you feel like improving any of his projects. A few users of done some maintenance work on Jack's script to keep up with firmware changes and some have done some enhancements to YazDHCP.

The speedster was going so fast, it entered a different timeline. Hence why you couldn't see the results. Just ask @Viktor Jaep who ventures there all the time via vpn tunnels..

Yeah, the Black Friday deals are definitely over for the spdMerlin subscriptions! Perhaps leave spdMerlin off until the new year, and hopefully there will be some sales events then?!

yea the deals crashed when cyber monday ended. If you were not apart of that cyber monday special, you didn't get the "locked-in" rates.

As I have one of the slowest, worst internet connections on mother Earth, I've spotted a (rare) issue in spdMerlin, which should never appear to any modern internet connection user, hoping someone could fix it!

Obviously, it is caused by Speedtest auto converting measurement units in test result summaries. The following attachment summarizes the whole issue...

I seem to be having trouble displaying stats on the UI. When I run from AMTM, I get errors. I did some troubleshooting, uninstall/ reinstall, etc. and now have it working, but for some reason I can also get it working by selecting Unix time and jffs as the location of the DB. Anytime I select either of these options, I get errors again. I have a number of AMTM options all running Non-Unix and from the USB, but I can't with SpdMerlin. I looked through this thread to try to get to the point I am now, but not sure what to do. I'm just concerned I will end up filling up jffs at some point.

You appear to have 2 separate but related issues:

1) Corrupted database (i.e. "malformed database schema").
2) Changing the storage location from JFFS to USB causes errors.

It's been over 6 months since I last modified the code for the spdMerlin add-on, but I do recall making several code improvements that would make changing the storage location from JFFS to USB a bit more robust & smoother. So I suggest switching from your current 4.4.5 'master' release installation to the modified 'develop' branch 4.4.6 version that includes fixes & various improvements to see if your two issues are resolved.

Here are the steps:

1) First, make sure the current storage location is set to JFFS; then exit the CLI menu and type the following commands on the SSH terminal session:

/jffs/scripts/spdmerlin develop
/jffs/scripts/spdmerlin forceupdate

2) Once the add-on script has been updated to the 4.4.6 version, go to the SSH CLI menu and change the storage location from JFFS to USB.

3) Now, run a speed test to see if the errors have disappeared.

4) If the errors are no longer generated, you're done - nothing else to do.

5) However, if the errors are still present, I'd strongly recommend completely deleting the database files & folder and starting a fresh database *with* the storage location set to USB - do *NOT* go back to JFFS.

Thank you. The switch to the developer version and force update worked. Went to CLI and switched to USB. Ran a speedtest and received pages and pages of errors retrieving data for WebUI Charts. Starting a fresh DB using your instructions seems to have fixed my issue. TY!

is there anyway to modify the speedtest variables to include latency parameters just like normal ookla speedtest via webpage
