Hello, I'm wondering if you fine people out there might be able to provide some suggestions on what could possibly be the problem I'm experiencing.
I'm in the UK and have VDSL internet with BT (What they call BT Infinity). I've recently purchased the equipment mentioned in the post title to replace the BT router.
After a bit of poking about I have been able to get my internet connection working with this setup and I'm even writing this post via said connection on my PC.
However I have two very specific problems and I and some of my more knowledgeable friends have absolutely zero idea of why they are occurring.
Problem 1: When using the Android Twitch app on my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S7), it is for some reason completely unable to get a list of the channels that are available for viewing. I launch the app, it attempts to show my list of followed channels, and it just times out. When I switch the wifi off on my phone and tell it to use 4G, the channel list displays with no issues.
Problem 2: I play the game Final Fantasy 14. It's an MMO. Within the game, you can teleport around to various crystals. Although I can run and login to the game with zero issues, I cannot use the game's teleport action to change zones - any time I do, I am instantly disconnected from the game. Other online games I play have so far shown zero issues (mainly Rocket League).
If I go back to using my original BT Homehub, I have no issues. A friend was able to lend me a login for a VPN service he uses. If I connect to the game with the VPN service then again I have no issues in the game.
I was also able to connect to the internet by using the modem only, with its router mode enabled - couldn't test my phone but the problem with my game as described above disappears if I do that.
I've tried the router with both the latest available stock ASUS firmware and also the asuswrt merlin firmware, which has had no effect on my issue.
Anyone out there got any ideas about what might be up with this router?
Thanks in advance
EDIT: I have found a solution! I have had to reduce the MTU and MRU settings in the router from their defaults of 1492, down to 1472. This has then solved the problem for me
