I wanted to check what the newest alpha was for the 68U but when I click on the link in the first post or use the pre-beta link on the lostrealm site, I am taken to a OneDrive site that just says "Sorry, an error has occurred."
Looks like OneDrive is really down.....

RT-AC86U running Alpha 2 for more than 36 hours: all seems fine so far...

Installed RT-AC86U_382.2_alpha2-gdef3266_cferom_ubi a few hours ago and so far everything seems to work well.

Two things I noticed in the system log (but I also saw these with 382.1_2):

When using the Tools_OtherSettings.asp page to Disable Asusnat tunnel I get this in the syslog:
Code:
httpd: nvram_check fail: nvram dns_probe_content over length (33 > 0)

And every now and then I see warnings like this appear in the syslog:
Code:
kernel: jffs2: warning: (734) jffs2_sum_write_data: Not enough space for summary, padsize = -277

Running new alpha on both routers (ac3100, ac68u). Running really smooth absolutely no problems.

Does RT-AC68U_382.2_alpha2-gdef3266 still fail to correctly mount '-t CIFS' ?
Code:
ping ds-416

PING ds-416 (10.88.8.197): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 10.88.8.197: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.406 ms
Code:
mount \\DS-416\Asus /mnt/RT-AC68U/DS-416/BackupScriptsJFFS -t cifs -o username=uuuuuuuu,pass=ppppppppppp

mount: mounting \\DS-416\Asus on /mnt/RT-AC68U/DS-416/BackupScriptsJFFS failed: No such device
Code:
modprobe cifs.ko

modprobe: module cifs.ko not found in modules.dep

FWIW the latest Alpha is the first one for the 86U which has successfully been able to reboot the router, rather than simply powering it down, when selected from the options to reboot.

I can't find where this has been discussed already, I have seen it mentioned but the search function fails me.
In 382.x we now have the option to 'to format your hard drive'.
The only options are NTFS, FAT and HFS. Will this include EXT* in a future release?
I understand this is code from Asus stock firmware?

Thanks @RMerlin! I updated from 380.68_4 to Alpha 2 today. After power cycle, factory reset and load the previous settings via NVRAM Save/Restore Utility, I got the error "Resulting list of DHCP reservations is too long - remove some, or use shorter names." on DHCP Server tab. I've never seen this message before. Any idea how to solve this? TY

You'd have to ask Asus. I already have my hands full STILL trying to get that damn code to be stable, so anything related to file sharing is very low on my priority list.

It's nothing short of frustrating. The latest stumble block is at boot time Adaptive QoS will fail to setup itself like 90% of the time, requiring to manually restart QoS. So far I've been unable to track down the cause.

The 382 code base as well as the HND SDK have been a huge pain in the butt so far.

Asuswrt now enforces size limitations. The DHCP list on the RT-AC88U/AC3100 is now limited to 2500 characters total.

Module was missing from that platform, I had to re-apply the same Makefile change as in AM380.

When using the Tools_OtherSettings.asp page to Disable Asusnat tunnel I get this in the syslog:

Probably caused by a bug in Asus's definition for that variable - they defined it twice in defaults.c, with the second time missing various flags such as the allowed size.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you know how they count the total number of characters? I only have 549 characters in total if I count the names of the devices only e.g. "Chromecast-Ultra" or "iPad-Air"

No problem, I just hope that Asus has the foresight to include EXT* in future. This would partially solve a big hurdle for those wanting to install Entware or my Ad-blocker on an attached device. There's no partition support (yet) but it's a start.

Porting part of 382 code back to 380 is an unexpected goodie and I really appreciate it. That in itself is helpful enough, especially with the simpler way to add a third party tab to the UI.
As always, take all the time you need. There's no need to hurry.

Running RT-AC86U_382.2 and a couple of things on a good build:

1. On GUEST wireless networks, its not possible to hid the SSIDS or not independently of normal WIFI SSIDs. I like to broadcast SSID for Guest Networks but hide for my IoT/Media SSIDs. I tried SSH to the router, and set each WL0.1 device for example to be closed=0 but after reboot it was reset to whatever the setting was for the main Wi-Fi SSID setup.

2. When in IE11 on Windows 10 creators update, I go into 'ADMINISTRATION' menu option and then 'TEMPERATURE', an exclamation mark ('!') icon flashes saying IE8/9/10 are no longer supported. Seems a bug, because I am in IE11 and no other page displays that icon?

3. The Timezone adjustments for GMT/BST were not correct on English by default for UK.

4. I only seem to get the TOP 5 clients in Traffic statistics? When I selected one of the devices, I got two other devices for that device, that were on different MAC and IP addresses listed in the data output. IS this a bug?

5. WIFI Time schedules do not always turn the WIFI back on (notably 5GHZ). Sometimes I have to reboot the router.

6. Annoying that I can't copy and paste any MAC addresses from the AIProtection screen when it lists a MAC address or IP address. Probably the default ASUS code in play here, but would be nice to be able to copy and paste text from that screen.

7. Can WIFI output be the correct allowed strength for the UK. I am sure I read that Asus lowered to FCC regulations for output power, but Asus should use the power per country allowed, not blanket (weaker) setting?

Other than that, pleased with this router and Merlin firmware. First time I have ever used Merlin as I am new to Asus routers having previously used Billion and Draytek and Netgear. I gave up on the DSL-AC88U as that was fraught with flaky hardware for Wi-Fi, and numerous serious bugs in Asus firmware. I had three units and plumped for RT-AC86U in the end!

Code:
nvram get dhcp_staticlist

Then count the length of the parameters.
