[Alpha] Preview builds for Asuswrt-Merlin 380.60

Workgroup is correctly configured and I have removed every device off the network except for a laptop which I have disabled in registry to prevent it from participating in browser election. It worked fine in version 380.58 but any version after that including the alpha ones, it does not work. I also did factory reset.

Who wins the election as master browser?

Theoretically it should be the router because force as master browser is set to on but it's not taking it.

Anyone getting xbox 360/Xbox One having problems opening a upnp port?
i have to do a network test a few times like 3 or 4 before any devices manage to open a port
Never had any upnp problems in the past with merlin
I've been wary of installing these alphas, but the most recent official FW from ASUS is definitely causing issues with us having two Xbox Ones on at the same time. One will be open NAT and the other strict, and I'm not even seeing a request logged for port 3074 from the second console. So this may be less of a Merlin problem and more a problem with whatever UPnP implementation ASUS is using. Honestly, to this day, I've never found a FW for my RT-AC68U (either official or Merlin's) that consistently gives me open NAT on both consoles... so I'm starting to get frustrated enough to change routers. I'll probably try Merlin's alpha 3 just to see if it makes any difference, but if not, it may be time for me to jump ship. I appreciate all the hard work going on here, but if the router can't get UPnP right with any consistency, it's frustrating.

You can't forward the same port to two consoles at the same time, so this is normal.

Updated to Alpha3 on RT-AC68U and Just like 380.59, force as master browser and SAMBA do not work. It last worked in 380.58

Yep, exactly the same here. Master browser comes back as my pc. Router is not listed in Windows Explorer Network.

I'd revert any registry-level customization first to ensure you aren't creating a different issue with them.

Try disabling spnego support on the router, in case something in your Windows configuration is causing it to fail. http://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-380-59-is-now-available.32469/page-33#post-266074
I only set MaintainServerList to no to try and force the router to take mb. I reverted back to Yes and the laptop takes over mb. All other devices in the workgroup are discoverable so it just seems like the router cannot join the workgroup for some reason. I did try your solution about disabling spnego but unfortunately it did not work either. I appreciate your feedback.

I'm not manually forwarding the same port to two consoles. I'm letting UPnP do what it's supposed to do. The Xbox One uses port 3074... and when one powers up, you can see on the RT-AC68U's log that it receives a request for 3074 to the IP of that console. Then when the second one powers up and sends a request on that same port, I never see it show up in the router's logs. So that console shows a strict NAT. If UPnP were working correctly, they would both be open without me having to do anything, right?

What do /var/log.nmbd and /var/log.smbd contain?

As I said, you can't forward the same port twice at the same time. First one gets 3074 forwarded, the second one won't be able to as it's already forwarded to the first console.

Typically, well-designed games would allow forwarding a different port if the first one is already in use, i.e. 3074 for the first console, and 3075 for the next one. If the game can't do that, then it's not the router's fault. You will have the same problem regardless of which router or which UPNP daemon you run.

And yet, there are many routers that show open NAT on multiple consoles with no problem when using UPnP... so I'm a little confused. I'm not having any issues with games, but the Xbox One's voice chat services can have trouble connecting to others if your console shows a strict NAT.

Sorry for derailing the thread with this, but it has been a source of frustration. Some firmwares get me to one console open, one moderate, which is usable for the most part... whereas most seem to be open/strict. The only one that ever got me to open/open was 378.56_2, but they wouldn't stay that way. I thought them using IPv6 was supposed to sort out these issues, which is why I ended up with the AC68U in the first place. My old Netgear router froze if you enabled IPv6. (Pardon if this is all remedial... I'm PC literate, but not heavy on networking.)

Edit: From Microsoft's documentation:
"If 3074 is unavailable, a local port from the dynamic port range (49152-65535) will be used – and again Teredo will attempt to automatically provide inbound connectivity without the need for explicit port forwarding rules." - Xbox

This is what I'm curious about. The router hasn't been showing a request for the second console in that port range if the other one has already requested 3074.

I found that for serving as masterbrowser a USB Device attached to the router is required.
Yup that worked. You also have to enable share too which sucks. In in 380.58 or older you did not need to this to enable master browser.

Thanks for the trail, I'll take a look.

Another issue that was recently pointed out was that using some special characters in a username can prevent from logging on a SMB share with that user as Asuswrt doesn't always properly escape such characters.

The minidla in alpha3 is very unstable, it crash each 15minutes for me in ps4 and in my Sony Bravia some times it cant find the mindlna server. In 380.59 was more stable.

Another issue I came across is with the openvpn client. If you route any device through the VPN using policy rules, those routing entries stick and your device is stuck with no internet access. Even if you set the redirect Internet policy to no or set the service state to no for the tunnel.

380.60 currently re-enables Asus's custom thumbnail generation code, as I was trying to get back in sync with their code (380.59 wasn't in sync, and was using buggy broadcast code, which created OTHER issues). I was hoping that by now they would have finished debugging this new code...
