You don't need to do that anymore @Neil62 .
You have the option now to lock channels per band with Smart Connect.
Understood but it still auto selects the bandwidth across bands. Anyone willing to share with me there current SC settings, I know they will vary greatly across environments, but its a starting point. Its been a while since I last played with it, did spend a few days with it, tuning, the last time, but lets see if it behaves better without the constant channel scanning.

I suspect the issue is unique to your equipment. And if it's been around since forever, a clean install now won't make a difference. So, time to think outside the box.

I did a Restore/Initialize and the RT-AC86u main router seems a lot more happy on this firmware. No more roamast crashes.

Never had much luck with it

But it works now, check it out. You approach your place from far. 2.4GHz. In the house 5GHz, always works for me now. One SSID. Smart Connect, fixed channels...
The stationary clients I have on a filter so they stick to 5GHz only and ignore the 2.4GHz band...

Hey folks has anyone seen low download speeds on an aimesh setup. Doesn't matter what node I'm connected to or what device in my network I am using wired or wireless my download speed drops considerably, it seems capped at a certain speed while the upload speed stays at what I am paying for. If I reboot the system it all goes back to normal download speeds. I have 3 ac86u in aimesh latest stock firmware. The previous pulled firmware didn't have this download speed slowdown issue after a few hours of use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for that, other than the channels I have same, here is what I have on the smart connect config setup, to start with and yours?

I've only ever used the default SC rules. If they didn't work, I'd either read up and change something, or disable SC and use separate SSIDs... the later option has always seemed less expensive, especially since AiMesh has already cost too much up until recent releases.

Should the steering triggers for RSI for SC, equal the roaming assistant RSI's?

Without thinking about it, no... Asus could program it to do that, if it was required.

That makes more sense... a proper install comes first before troubleshooting unique issues.

Speeds seem normal here.

I have big connection issues and slow download/upload speed lets see if it continues longer than 1-2 days then i check other firmwares to find out if its this or isp.

#edit

This firmware is very unstable down/up speeds are changing a lot and ping is jumping something is messed up big time with this firmware ! Sadly unusable at this point.

You've had 'pinging issues' forever. I don't think it's the firmware. You should try some wholesale changes to see if you can uncover the real issue, imo.

No i used different firmwares since few months without such huge issues. This firmware is bad to a point it should be pulled and repaired in my opinion.

Here are some ping results for my router, my wireless node, and Quad9... I'm not sure how scientific these results are but they do not worry me:

To be honest this firmware performs the best out of all produced for this model but only for limited amount of time and after many hours or days it slows down to crawl and download/upload + jumping ping is worse than ever.

Going back through your posts I see you always had some issues with different FW versions. No such thing here.

I suspect your router is defective. Before mine died... and I'm glad it died completely... it interfered with browsing (page load) and probably other traffic I did not notice.

As you notice, this firmware performs well... and then your router hardware glitches.
