Any known issues when upgrading from 354.29 to 374.35? I've been using 354 for quite some time and have been happy with it. Is it worth updating from 354 to 374? Thanks for the great work.

You might get better feedback if you post your router model.

I have a RT N16. I plan to setup OpenVPN as a Client. But I only see as servers.

Firmware is currently 3.0.0.4.374.35_4

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Actually, OpenVPN is not available on the RT-N16 due to lack of nvram space. The fact you see some of the pages on 374.35 was actually a bug that was fixed in the next version - those pages don't do anything.

joegreat,

There is no SDK5 versions for the RT-AC66U - it has always had the SDK6 version afaik.

Even still; I would still take the time to reset to defaults and manually enter any settings required. At least then you know if any new issues are with (only) the new firmware and not with any weird interaction between the old and new.

woops, sorry. Its an Asus ac66u. I'll ask again, any issues with upgrading from 354.29 to 374.35?

With such a large jump in version I would recommend a factory default, followed by manually reconfiguring everything.

I would also recommend jumping to 374.36 Beta 1, as it's proved to be quite stable. The Beta label was only because that build was meant for gathering user feedback on fixes I did to the networkmap code - and the feedback was positive.

5ghz dropout

Hi Merlin and guys
Have updated my firmware on my RT-N66U to .35 and keep getting drop-outs on 5ghz channel, while 2.4ghz seems ok. As a complete novice (so explain in laymans terms) any ideas why this would be?
Thanks

Sdk5 firmware

This may seem like a dumb question......but once the sdk5 fw is loaded does it or should it actually say it in the firmware version line?

Thanks

sdk5

Well i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong! :(
Installed twice and got the update complete message, yet still the fw doesn't show sdk5.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Unplug any USB devices from the router.

Unplug everything except the internet/WAN and the computer you're doing the upgrade from.

Reboot the router (use the power button or pull the power plug: don't use the reboot button in the UI).

After the computer has rebooted, wait a good 5 minutes, then do the firmware upgrade.

When it says it is finished - power cycle the router once more.

Thanks for all you do. This may not be the appropriate place to ask this but it goes with your post. I have 2 rt-n66u's one for learning at home and one at my small office running about 15 to 20 devices and QOS for voip. To date I have the asus stock firmware on the office router and yours (Firmware:3.0.0.4.374.33) on the one at home. I would like to install yours on my office for some of the great features you have implemented (master boot for one I think the office will benefit from). Will not have vpn or pageant for the one in the office just your firmware and edit it from the web interface. Can you please tell me which one you would recommend. Stability is what I am looking for the office.

Best Regards

Currently for the RT-N66U, I would recommend 374.36-sdk5 Beta 1. A lot of the fixes in the following versions were related to VPN, so they won't apply to you. The SDK5 build will also give you the best wireless performance.

As your quote from RMerlin suggests, 374.36 Beta 1 is the latest, fastest and most stable firmware available for the N66U. I would suggest using the SDK5 version.

Unless you want to wait for 374.38 which he is working on.

Since 374.38 will be based on a newer SDK, probably best to stick to 374.36 Beta 1 for an office environment, at least until 374.38 will have been out for a week or two for people to provide feedback on it. 374.38 will be actually using a wireless driver that Asus hasn't released yet, so it won't be as toroughly tested as previous releases.

374.38 is out?
