I've gone back to 374.38_2-em and browsing and using the admin pages is slow. It takes several seconds for pages to load, even after caching, and sometimes it just hangs on a white page, such as going from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz wireless settings via the drop-down menu.

I had this problem when I tried it before, but thought other factors were at play at the time.

This is usually caused by your security software interfering with the web interface, or by having your router overloaded by Download Master or the Media Server.

I don't use Download Master or Media Server and am using Firefox, but I don't have this problem with your other firmware versions and FF.

Is there a setting I can change in FF to help?

What is your Anti-virus software? You didn't have problem with the older firmware because the conflict with other security softwares were introduced with the newer firmwares. Eset's anti-virus is one of the known security software that causes this problem.

I use Avast free edition.

When I tested EM with firefox, accessing the GUI was a little funky. I power cycled the router and didn't have any more issues. Also, I think it's important to reset to defaults after you flash EM and re-configure manually from scratch. And then powercycle.

On AC68U when activated section / jffs, in his words syslog. How do I make in this section was not written log.
Trying to do so in the /jffs/post-mount
Code:
if [ -n "`pidof syslogd`" ]; then
killall syslogd 2>/dev/null
fi
/sbin/syslogd -m 0 -O /mnt/sda1/logs/syslog.log -S -l 7
After that, the web interface syslog disappeared.

Code:
nvram set ipv6_ra_conf=mset
nvram commit
service restart_dhcp6c

I just tested this and I get an IPv6 WAN address again so I think my guess is correct.

This does solve the ipv6 issue on singapore isp M1. It works well

Good to hear! I'm sure there are some ISPs out there who's DHCPv6 server doesn't like handing out prefixes without an address request to go along with it.

So I guess I put my finger on the correct variable, now we just need to know what to set and when at the code level. :)

RT-AC66U

3.0.0.4.374.38

Traffic monitor last 24hours.

Bug, -- or maybe it is some special add-on that is monitoring the whole internet of the World. (I think my poor FTTH would be smoking).:)

Live monitor is fine.

Router was default reset after firmware install.

N66U. Went from 270.26b to 374.38.2.em. Pretty much the same in terms of range and speedtest, which is a good thing.:)

Hey folks, update here.

First I want to give a big thank you to Merlin. Over the Christmas holidays as I added more new toys to my network I realized again just how important a good router is these days. I am an average Joe and now have 20+ wifi devices, PCs, smartphones, tablets, security cameras, thermostats, smart TVs (boy is that an oxymoron), and streaming devices. I really do appreciate Merlin firmware, it has made my family's wifi life much better.

I got a N66U a few years ago, installed Merlin the day I got it and was a happy camper from the get go. I installed a few updates but stopped and then really stopped thinking about them when the SDK6 driver issues came to light for the N66U.

In terms of my update to 374.38.2.em, initially it looked like pretty similar in terms of range/connect speed. I was pretty excited about that at the time as I expected a downgrade, but had decided to do it anyway on a cold, rainy day out of technical curiosity.

The conclusion I have come to after 10 days is that it really is a bit of a downgrade. Initially most devices appeared to be very similar in terms of performance, though as I have I looked more closely, most are just a bit worse. Not a huge deal, but the real issue I have is that's just enough to push a few borderline devices from acceptable to not.

In my case it really is device dependent. I have a LG Smart TV 20 ft from the router that now lags/buffers when streaming that did not before, yet a WD Live streaming device 40 ft away works just as well as it did before the firmware upgrade. Same with a pretty new 2.4 NIC only PC (ty Dell!), I can now find spots in the house that did not exist before where it is noticeably slower.

So I am going to try the last release of SDK5, 374.35_4. If anyone has a different recommendation I'd love to hear it.

Thanks again Merlin, you da man!

Also, don't forget that you are switching to a totally different driver here, so you need to both reset the router back to factory defaults and reconfigure it, and delete/recreate the wifi connection profile on your affected computer/devices. Some people did test with and without these required config changes, and they confirmed that it made a very measurable difference for them.

That message doesn't say anything about what is happening, merely that you just clicked on "Apply", so I have no idea what issue you are referring to.

The certificate is self-signed. Internet Explorer is sometime stupid and will suddenly refuse to let you manually accept any certificate it does not recognize. Check on the web, there are various tips on how to fix this. One method that I recall was to put the site in the Trusted Site list.

Yes, the message is useless since it does not tell you what happened, seems to only happens to me when I change the routers internal IP or GUI HTTPS port.

I'll try searching again but adding to the trusted site list made no change.

Why syslog.log is written to jffs at section activation? RMerlin in what a problem prompt please.
AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.38_2
Regards,

Code:
admin@RT-AC68U:/tmp/home/root# ln -s /mnt/sda1/logs/syslog.log /tmp/syslog.log
ln: /tmp/syslog.log: File exists

Clearly having manually 'moved' the physical location of the file, you either need to rename the old file or delete it BEFORE you create the link.

AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.38_2
Regards,

Asus puts a copy of syslog there so it can survive reboots. And since the flash used in those routers can handle up to 100,000 program/erase cycles, it's not an issue.

Fastscan in Mediaserver

I´m very new in this router things, but the very first thing I´ve learned is: only buy a router that is capable of merlin´s firmware :)
Thank you for your great work!
First of all I have to describe my setup:

AC56U
4 Port USB 3.0 hub on the USB 3.0 port of the Asus Router
3 HDD with together 6TB and plenty of media files
1 HDD with 250GB on the USB 2.0 port of the Asus Router

My problem: it takes very long time, when one HDD is un- and repluged for the media server to scan all the media again.
Ok, I tried to understand what I found here to the fastscan fork in minidlna (https://code.google.com/p/minidlna-fastscan/), but after all I have to say that I´m probably to stupid and/or under-qualified for that task...as I read, I would need special everythings to to that task, which I do not have...I think...^^

SO, is there maybe a way for you to put this fork into your firmware in the future?
