Asuswrt-Merlin 3006.102.3 Beta 1 is now available for supported Wifi 7 devices. The focus of this release is the merge of a new GPL.

Please read the changelog for important information. The new GPL codebase also introduces a number of changes related to how Wireless networks are managed - most settings have been moved to the new Network menu (which replaces the original Guest Network Pro menu, by merging settings in one single page).

Code:
3006.102.3 (xx-xxx-xxxx)
  - NOTE: If flashing on top of Asus stock firmware 3006.102_37000
or greater, then you first need to enable downgrade
capabilities before flashing Asuswrt-Merlin on top
of it. Over SSH, run the following command:

             nvram set DOWNGRADE_CHECK_PASS=1

After that, you can upload Asuswrt-Merlin through
the webui like any regular firmware upgrade.

This is only required when flashing Asuswrt-Merlin
          for the first time.

  - NOTE: The new GPL codebase changed the way wireless networks
are configured. If you ever revert to an older
firmware, you MUST do a factory default reset following
the firmware downgrade, on both the router and any
          existing AiMesh nodes.

  - NEW: (re-added) VPN interface selector on the Speedtest page,
         to test a VPN throughput.
  - UPDATED: Merged with GPL 3006.102_37346 (with the wifi firmware
from 37038 for the RT-BE96U and GT-BE98_PRO - was missing
             from GPL)
  - UPDATED: dropbear to 2024.86.
  - CHANGED: VPN public IP retrieval now uses HTTP instead of STUN,
which should be more reliable through a VPN tunnel.
  - CHANGED: Model name will be inserted in the filename of JFFS backups.
  - CHANGED: Display DHCP leases from other VLANs
  - CHANGED: Improved refresh behaviour of the VPN Status page.
  - CHANGED: Set rp_filter mode to "loose" on Wireguard client interfaces.
             Fixes gettunnelip.sh and onboard speedtest.
  - FIXED: webui always redirecting to router hostname for RT-BE86U.
  - FIXED: DLNA device icon missing for GT-BE98_PRO
  - FIXED: Site Survey page not loading properly
  - FIXED: Wireless Log would sometimes display the wrong hostnames
  - FIXED: Refresh link not working on OpenVPN/Wireguard client pages.
  - FIXED: WireGuard client randomly failing to retrieve public IP for
           display on the webui.

Please keep discussions focused on this specific release.

Can somebody tell me how it works to enable the downgrade to get the merlin firmware upgrade?

SSH?

I did a dirty flash from 3006_102.2_2 on RT-BE88U and GUI of this beta firmware seems to be not responsive. All my Wireless 2.4G and 5G are not working.

Reverted back to 3006_102.2_2 and restore my settings.

Do I need to factory reset after upgrading to this beta fimrware and restore my settings?

Did you read the post...

Use an application called "Putty" to "SSH" into your router's IP using your username/password. Then run the command mentioned in the documentation.

Intalled it over alpha2 without any issues. I like the new Network page. Makes it easy to set up MLO networks and clients. Which by the way works great, tested it with my OnePlus Open at different locations in my house and yard. I haven't delved into VPN yet, since I only have my new setup for a couple of days (config in signature below). That will be my next project.

For those who loaded the beta FW, may i know which FW you came from and did you do a factory reset after flashing it?

After flashing this beta, my BE88U (3006_102.2_2) GUI is very sluggish and not useable. Wireless clients cannot connect to 2.4G and 5G.

Run "top" over SSH and see what is causing the slowdown.

On BE88u.
Code:
custom_script: Running /jffs/scripts/service-event-end (args: restart autowan)
are flooding the log, no matter what is selected as the Primary WAN in the "Dual WAN" page. 3006_102.2_2 doesn't have this issue.

And there's a glitch in the Desktop WebUI, a duplicate entry of the current selected one. The mobile version seems to be fine though.

I have the same log entry every few seconds on my RT-BE96U. But the WAN connection seems stable.

I had the same issue with RT-BE86U. Merlin fixed it in:

But this was on a separate branch; I don't know if this shall be re-applied for all models now

Hello.
My setup: RT-BE88U as Main Router, plus 2x AiMesh nodes RT-AX58U FW Stock 3.0.0.4.388_25139, both connected via wire.

Issues:
  1. 5GHz Guest Network is not being propagated between nodes. 2.4GHz one propagates as expected (I already set 5+2.4 in configuration; all nodes have been resetted).
  2. An USB Key (in my case, SanDisk 3.2 Gen1 64Gb) connected in USB 3 mode kills nodes WiFi propagation. Into the GUI, Guest and IoT shows 0 devices connected, and actually WiFi signal from nodes is absent. I underline that my nodes are connected to BE88U via wire.
  3. Inconsistencies between connected devices on Network Map, AiMesh and Network page. In my case, they respectively show 30 - 28 - 18 devices connected.
  4. I've seen that with this 3006 firmware it is not more possible to filter MAC addresses by band (2.4 or 5, useful for forcing specific devices to connect at 5GHz)
  5. Much weaker 5GHz WiFI signal towards a Samsung Smart TV, compared to an AX88U Pro, located a few meters from the router.
  6. App WiFI Analyzer shows a *hidden* SSID being broadcasted by BE88U.
Kind regards

P.S. a curiosity: current Asus stock firmware 3.0.0.6.102_37103, should be considered newer or older than GPL 3006.102_37346 used by Merlin firmware?

Thank you. I did a clean install (flashed, factory reset and restore) So far, it seems to be ok. Will continue to monitor
Never do a restore of settings after a factory reset!! Rewrite your setting manually. If you have problems, you come back your problems with your restore process...

The initial patch only covvered services-event, this new report is for services-event-end that is also impacted by this event being run on a regular schedule.
