Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56_2 is now available

I am running John's 14E1 version, and i've attempted to flash this version. The router reboots and come back like nothing happened. Still 14E1 and all my settings are in tact, anything i need to look at to see why the firmware wont take? I tried from a wifi laptop and also a wired laptop. I also tried restoring factory defaults and that doesn't work either?

Try flashing with 378.55 first , Factory reboot after.Reconfig just a bit and then flash with 378.56_2
If its not work, flash with 376.3626 (official ) from Asus and after with 378.56_2

P.S; we dont know your router model,so im not sure if its 376.3626 for you.If flashing not working , try the first one series 376.XXXX from asus .(376.3626 is for Rt.Ac68)

I don't see anything in the release notes that would address the issue i'm having. I went from .55 to .56 and fixed all issues I was having on 5ghz but now I have issues on 2.4. anything that connects on 2.4 works for a short period of time then just stops responding. if I reset the stack or switch to 5ghz all is fine. when I upgraded I did reset to factory. anybody have any suggestions? not a deal breaker but definitely and inconvenience.
BTW, massive props to Merlin for all his work!

Have you tried 'forgetting' the network credentials for all the 2.4GHz clients and re-associating each one again manually? Or easier, simply use new ssids?

I used new ssids on the reset. sorry I didn't mention that before.
 
For some reason connecting to a modem bridge gets random drop outs from Wireless. Then the the LAN, needing a reboot and reconnect. Setup in DHCP mode works fine, wireless stable and lan. Shame I cant completly remove the modem but hey.....

One thing would like to investigate - after 8 days of uplink RAM usage icreased from 19-20% to 35%, which looks strange for me. After reboot - again 19%.
What could be a reason for this "filling" RAM and how to avoid this?

That's normal operation.
 
Nothing can be done for this, most of the wireless code is now closed source and locked down due to the FCC's new rules. The corresponding options were removed from the web interface for the same reason, they are now hardcoded inside the closed source components of the firmware.

Would it be possible to do anything at the client end? For example, is there a configuration on Windows that I could set to force it follow a certain region setting?

Not showing requests for ports 3074 and 3075 from both consoles in the log, so one gets stuck with moderate/strict NAT. Tried factory reset and various combinations of settings, with no luck. Rolled back to 378.55 and all is well again. Minor concern, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Could you describe your desired behavior (what UPnP does under .55 for example) that this isn't doing? To which device do you want each port forwarded to?

Hmm, I wonder if this is what is happening to me as well.
A lot of my wireless devices are constantly losing connection and I have noticed that my ISP's modem (2wire 3800) has been giving my AC68U a LAN IP instead of a WAN IP, so instead of seeing my public IP on the Network Map it gives a 192.168 address.
 
RT-AC87U with this fw, operating as an AP, Samba share disabled. My router randomly restarts x times a day, after some samba failure (if I enable smb, it also produces these restarts). I do not use smb, and there aren't any USB devices connected to the router.
With another 87U, also operating as an AP with an older Merlin fw with enabled samba (but not used) works as expected. What should be the problem? The log:

If I disable samba on the web interface, I wouldn't like to see this service starting, however in the log, there is it: Nov 13 13:12:34 Samba Server: daemon is started

The WINS server and/or Master Browser options will also start Samba if enabled.
 
Unfortunately, the router keeps restarting :(
What type of client is 192.168.1.93 (the one that was being complained about in the previous syslog). Also, could you post up another syslog.

What do you mean on "type"? That client is the 87U router in AP mode. This is its (out of the DHCP range) IP from the main router (68U).

I cleared the log and restarted the 87U. After the whole process, I saved the log (http://pastebin.com/G3GDrtkg - it shows the samba errors several times, with two different IPs: .93 and .102 - It is interesting, because 68U binds the .93 IP to 87U's mac address).

Anyway, after a while another "restart" occured, and here is the diff of the log:

There are no samba errors, so this can be a failed identification of the problem. My other 87U runs as another AP on 378.55_0 fw without any problem/restart/whatever with almost the same settings (guest wifi disabled and there isn't any fix IP address resolved for it on the 68U). :-/
