Upgraded two RT-AC5300's from _4 dirty flash to _6 dirty - node first then router.. all is good.... had a few 2.4 disconnects with my Nest Camera but I think it has to do with my wifi congested area

No it's an issue with the 5300 and the 386 firmware, others report issues with 2.4G too. I've witnessed the 2.4G channel micro-dropping. Where it will be gone from the wifi list until I refresh and it's there until it's not randomly for a second.

I done a factory reset via webui, then a hard reset twice using the WPS button on 386-2_6 and still see 2.4 drops.

AC3100, dirty upgrade from 384.19 to latest factory F/W, to 386.2_6. Couldn't use any previous 386 versions as all of my clients would randomly lose internet connection despite the router showing a good WAN connection. Issue appeared to crop up whenever new wireless clients would connect and I couldn't isolate it to a specific device.

Thus far I've had one instance of the same "WAN shows up but clients have no internet" issue in 12 hours since the Merlin F/W upgrade. Cycling the WAN connection resolved the issue. Still monitoring.

I did a dirty upgraded from 386.2_4 to 386.2_6 and have had 3 crashes so far over 2 days.
No crashes prior to the upgrade.

I don't get a /jffs/crashlog.log so I have grep'd for "crashlog" in the syslog and this is what it shows. Any insights on what the trigger might be here would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest to do a factory reset and manual configuration after this "big jump" from 384 to 386...

Update: "Guest network(s) 1" were causing my AC3100 to drop internet to all clients but stay up on the WAN.

Configuration: AC3100 and 2 x AC68U in mesh configuration.

Details: Upgrade to 386.2_6 on AC3100 from latest factory F/W. Router would drop internet to clients "randomly" and required a cycle of the WAN connection to restore.

Troubleshooting: Looked at client list and noticed a few wireless clients connected to Guest Network 1 on both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz were issued 192.168.100.x addresses when no other clients were given IPs in that scope. Found when a client joined one of the Guest Networks internet would drop. Was able to replicate multiple times.

Disabled Guest Network 1 on both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz and created the same Guest Networks in slot 2. Problem did not replicate.

Saw some posters noted issues with Guest Network 1, can probably add my issue to the list.

Quick update.

I might have resolved my issues on both bands, specifically around 5:28pm. I know it’s very specific, but that’s when I was having major issues with WiFi and internet. I know, I’m still scratching my head.

1. After additional testing, my dumb butt realized, I dirty flashed the firmware while I had a thumb drive plugged in to USB port in to my ac68u router.

Just as a reminder, unplug any and all devices plugged in to an USB port/s….Before… flashing a firmware.
Either use safe removal option in GUI or turn off the router, unplug a device/s from USB ports and turn the router back On. Now you can flash the router.

@Merlin please add it to all your guides, in red letters, that usb devices must be unplugged before flashing a firmware. I’m OCD and I still forgot to unplug/remove a device that is attached to a USB port.

2. Since I dirty flashed the router and I did NOT unplug a thumb drive before flashing my router, I had to take steps to resolve my issues.

3. Turned off the router, unplugged the thumb drive. Turn the router On.
4. Formatted JFFS partition.
5. Format USB thumb drive to ntfs on my computer.
6. Turn off router.
7. Insert usb thumb drive in to router.
8. Turn router On and wait for it to fully boot.
9. Telnet/ssh in to my router, format usb drive and reinstall Diversion, Skynet, etc from scratch.

I credit @L&LD for all the hard work. I read several of his guides, mashed them together and made it work for me to resolve my Issues.

Thank you! Thank you for providing the simplest 101 and extensive well written guides. At times, I forget that the simplest solution, is the best solution.

In the process, my usb thumb drive started showing errors with in AC68 router gui and in logs. It’s a Corsair Flash Voyager that I purchased it in 2009. It still works for copying files on to it, but my router doesn’t want anything to do with it.

I digress.

Plugged in a new thumb drive, loaded Diversion and Skynet. 48 hours later, I dont see any issues around 5:28pm EST or any issues.

Ive been running latest Fork firmware for the past 24 hours. Personal curiosity. But that’s a topic for another discussion.

Aside from the fact that I don`t have tons of places documenting the flashing process but just a single Wiki page, failure to uinplug the USB disk will just increase the risk that the router will be unable to flash the firmware due to not having enough free memory. It will have absolutely no impact on the resulting flash, or wifi.

Too many sticky posts already, if anything I'd like to come up with a way to reduce the amount. Experience has shown me that the more sticky posts a forum has, the less likely people are to pay attention to them and read them. The past TM experience has showed that this was already a problem here.

All your issues are unrelated to Asuswrt-Merlin firmware. You had a failing USB drive and messed up scripts as a result.
