Anyone else with RT-AX58U experiencing horrible problems when AiProtect or even QoS is enabled? I'm getting same horrible problems with stock ASUS or Merlin Beta2 FW.

When I enable AiProtect or QoS, wireless connectivity is pretty much f**ked and will just not work well, have constant drops, problems reconnecting, just horrible. And IPTV also just goes dead and won't route IPTV signal through correctly.

I've tweaked many things, have NextDNS client installed and all is working, but the moment I turn on AiProtect or QoS, router just chokes itself to death.
There seems to be something horribly wrong with the proprietary part of the firmware, made by Trend Micro? When any of that gets turned on, router just craps itself entirely. Without it, it seems to work perfectly.

I can't be the only one with these problems, surely...

Don't use those features on my AX58 but Asus new release from yesterday has QOS changes maybe try it not sure if it will help.

I'm still on 384.15, but since this is a beta thread I might as well report the problem here (if it is a problem) for a fix in the next release.

Don't.

1) There's no guarantee that what you report is still valid for the beta version being actively tested and discussed here.
2) In this case, what you report isn't even a bug. The DNS block option is only valid for Windows and won't work on a Linux-based router. And the nocache cannot be used in a non-interactive setup such as on a Linux router.

Interesting update. I have a 1Gbit cable connection and running spdMerlin to track it, but find now working from home it can cause issues when in Teams meetings so have turned it off.

Given my pipe is rarely so busy to cause problems I have not played with QoS, but may try Adaptive QoS if this update comes to the 88u. My gut feeling was they hadn’t invested to keep the categories and such up to date. Glad to see this.

Since applying 384.16 beta2 over beta1, I've noticed a few odd issues. I've got an RT-AX88U.

1) Sporadically, the network map page doesn't fully populate. It doesn't load current upload/download bandwidth, doesn't show all 8 lan ports, even with a scrollbar, and doesn't load connected clients.
2) Skynet seems to reset, during which, I'll get a blank webui page. Per stats in ssh (and webui once it reloads) its occuring exactly every 10 minutes. I've wiped JFFS partition, reformatted usb, recreated swap, reinstalled entware and skynet but I'm still seeing the resets.

You will need to provide a snippet of your syslog for anyone to tell whats going on.

Wow.
While we all need this Now-ish (2 weeks ago, actually), I hope @RMerlin gets this GPL for all the routers he supports sooner than later.
Fingers, toes, legs, eyes and arms crossed for 384.16_1!!!

AiProtect shows ZERO items running for months with Diversion and Skynet. Might consider those as an option...

Looks like something is causing the firewall service to constantly restart. I would use the initialize option, nuke all settings and start fresh.

A 10 minute DHCP lease from the ISP. Bad ISP!

It will certainly be interesting to see both:
  1. If Asus have now fixed the glaring QoS-ignoring-all-wifi-traffic bug they recently introduced (at least across a number of models, if not all) otherwise this makes any QoS improvements somewhat redundant!
  2. Where this update to the much-neglected QoS workings sits in terms of the FreshJR script - strongly suspect they'll be some incompatibility, sadly.

I’m choosing to remain optimistic: I suspect there are folks here who have what it takes to fix any FreshJR issues.

Just tested this and same result. When AiProtect or QoS ON, WiFi will be all messed up and IPTV non-functional. I literally cannot understand how ASUS missed this or that I'm the only one with RT-AX58U experiencing this.

Yeah i don't know don't use QOS or IPTV. I am on gigabit fiber so have no reason to bother with QOS.

initialize as in "Format JFFS partition at next boot" or something else? If format jffs partition, I just did that, went through and set up skynet again and am still seeing the 10 min restarts in the syslog

In case you missed it above (I replied to Adamm instead of you), your ISP is giving you a 10 minute DHCP lease, so the firewall will restart every 10 mins. Is the IP changing every 10 minutes or just renewing every 10 minutes? You may need to ask your ISP about it.

@RMerlin can you please compile it for AC86U even if the "only" update is the new wifi driver?
So we can test it before a new beta/main release.

Thanks!
