The only new announcement at Computex was Bluecave. The GT-AC5300 was already announced last winter and launched a few months ago, and the RT-AC86U was quietly released in China last week.

What about the BRT? lack of firmware updates you mean? I haven't been in touch with the BRT team lately so no idea .....

That one puzzles me. Only one single firmware, they didn't even bother with security updates while other models based on the same 380 codebase received quite a few of them since.

It's almost as if a development team pushed the product out, then either left, or got reassigned, leaving the product an orphan. It's really... weird. Especially for a business-class product.

Yes. They never announced it, but it's been on a FCC for a while now. Dual core version of the GT-AC5300 CPU.

Pics showed a production ready product, so there must have been a big investment of time and money...

Only in some select regions.

Could have been a soft launch too, and they are waiting on the 382 codebase to be finalized before a firm launch. I was even surprised to see it released with 380 code at the time.

hi Eric, it's really amazing to find you here!
I'm a newbie to this new world, just several days ago I found my router is no longer qualified for it's overburden jobs,
after read all the info I can reach, and I found Asuswrt-Merlin should be the most highly rating firmware in the world,
so I'd bought a AC-86U immediately, but sadly there is no Merlin support for AC86U and it's not even exist in ASUS's website(I'd contacted to ASUS to push them to update the info, their replied will do it soon).

which has a similar SoC to AC86U, do you guys has any plan to support those two new devices?
Or is there any tutorial to develop with the firmware code? As I had some experience on ARM platform, I'm willing to contribute my effort for this.

Too early to say. This new generation uses a separate code branch of Asuswrt, which is not compatible with any of the models I currently support. So for it to be possible, Asus will first need to move all the previous models to this new code branch. Only after that I will be able to consider whether it's possible or not to support them.

It has a dedicated backhaul, yes.
