MerlinAU MerlinAU v1.3.9 - The Ultimate Firmware Auto-Updater (GNUTON SUPPORT!)

Fantastic news! Our implemented actually doesn't require the checkupdates argument.

If you just run MerlinAU normally (without the checkupdates argument) it should auto update anyways as long as it's enabled.

And of course, as you mentioned the cron job tonight will also do the same thing for any other instances of the script automatically. :)

I'm looking forwards to hearing how it works for all your routers tomorrow! Version 1.3.7 should be the last one you need to do manually for all those routers hahaha!
I launched MerlinAU on a remote router (with auto update enabled), and, just as you stated, it updated automatically to v1.3.8! Thanks again to the dynamic duo: @ExtremeFiretop and @Martinski! Eight more by cron overnight...

Counting down the minutes for my nodes! :) Of course I've tested it while developing the solution with Martinski, but I'm still excited to see it live for the first time 😂

And cron did its job overnight! 👍

That's because @Martinski knows what he's doing! Martinski codes as easy as he breaths air, I'm sure of it at this rate.

I like to remind him I'm just tagging along in a student capacity to learn his ways. A year in officially as of last October 😉

I doubt Martinski really needs help often, he's just being nice letting me peak at his homework 😂

Every artist needs a critic! 🤣

MerlinAU 1.3.9 Released!

What's Changed/Fixed?:

PR: [ #375 ]
Minor UI Improvement
  • Added a user-friendly/human-readable schedule line below the "F/W Update Cron Schedule" menu option.
  • (Thanks @Martinski4GitHub @Martinski)
PR: [ #376 ]
Minor UI Improvement
  • Just a minor improvement in the "'Toggle Auto-Updates for MerlinAU Script" option to make it simpler and less crowded when ENABLED.
  • (Thanks @Martinski4GitHub @Martinski and @visortgw for the suggestions)
PR: [ #377 ]
Minor UI Improvement
  • Visually the Format type for the core shell script is redundant with the option of "Email Format Type" displaying the format.
  • Walked back a change from my previous PR here: #367 , and instead decided to specify the suffix to remove instead of removing all suffixes (GNUTON specific)
  • Thanks @visortgw for the suggestions!

PR: [ #379 ]
Code Improvements for Script Updates
  • Code improvements when checking for available script updates and performing automatic script updates.
  • (Thanks @Martinski4GitHub @Martinski)

PR: [ #381 ]
Code Improvements for Script Downloads
  • Code improvements when checking for available script updates and performing automatic script updates.

For anyone curious.

Here is a preview of PR: https://github.com/ExtremeFiretop/MerlinAutoUpdate-Router/pull/378 Which I have been working on for the month of December on my spare time...

No confirmation yet if we will deploy this, we are still testing the complications and the ease of updating the WebUI dependencies over different firmware updates, etc.
However we do have some users currently testing 1.4.0 (such as @visortgw ) ; so we should have a better sense soon if this is a project we will continue working on or scrap completely.

If anyone has any opinions of the design, or even the solution itself (to include or not include) feel free to spark up the disscusiion as I am still on the fence as of now.

Looks amazing, @ExtremeFiretop!

Thanks @Viktor Jaep and @Kingp1n for the positive feedback related to the WebUI PoC (Proof of Concept) 😉

1.3.9 just released is mostly some minor visual changes, so I just wanted to share a bit of the potential vision of the WebUI while I'm working on it. Again nothing is in stone until it's been fully tested and maybe even run through a few firmware upgrades.

Btw @Viktor Jaep are you back yet bud? I've been half disconnected from the forums over the holidays other than leaving a tab open on my desktop. Hope everything has been going well with you!!!

Or, simply enable auto update — it works like a champ!

You are very correct; assuming it's enabled, it should do it itself.

Speaking of which; I checked my routers this morning which I didn't update last night after the release, and would you look at that! All my other routers are now running 1.3.9 ;)
Happy it's working for you as well! (Especially considering you had a bunch of routers to update manually every time)

Man - If I could auto-update everything at once, I’d do it and schedule it for 3 AM... That’s when my house, car, phone, and fridge would all start beep-booping all at once.
Come morning, I'd open my eyes to see a new front door interface, my car's honk replaced by a synthetic beep, and my cereal has a new flavor patch called ‘Choco-2.0!’
