Wait a sec, I'm confused.

A few weeks ago 370 firmware was released.

370>271...?

Shouldn't the versions be incrementing upward? Was 370 some kind of beta? Did they revert back to 270 firmware to eliminate the 5 GHz bugs and updated that?

Oh and THANKS! :)

Also confused about 3.0.0.4.370

So ASUS RT-N66U B1 Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.271 was released today. Why is there a ASUS RT-N66U B1 Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.370 just below with a release date of June 11, 2013? Based on version numbers, the older firmware would be the latest. Confused.

Was just a heads up, I didn't say it made sense :D

You're welcome btw!

Installed here, the firmware update checker issue has been fixed. More info to follow..

Looks like ASUS didn't name it wrongly, more likely this .272 uses the .270 Broadcom drivers + fixes. Hence .272

Let's have RMerlin take a look and we will know shortly :D

Well, what's really strange is that the download page is showing 272, but the file coming down is 271 and is showing as 271 on the device interface after installation.

Weird, my cached page was showing 271 now it's indeed showing 272.

Even more confusing.

It was 271 this morning, they must have ninja'd it, but can't look to check at the moment :p

It appears that 271/272 is an update to 270, it does not have some of the things that were added in 370... I reverted back to 370 as it did not create any issues for me...

2xx has the old Broadcom SDK and driver, 3xx has the new (unstable for some) driver.

Think of it as two parallel branches. Use 2xx if you are having issues with your 5 GHz wireless.

In saying that I take it you mean only "downgrade" if you're having issues and do NOT own an Xbox right? As in, this new .272 would do nothing to fix the issues with Xbox 360 streaming speeds, correct?

Correct, since the option was only added in the 3xx branch AFAIK.

I agree that this is quite confusing - this release by Asus is as much a surprise to me as to you.

Looks like you only have two choices now for the stock firmware??? 370 or 272???

Correct!

With the 272 firmware downloading as 271.
Must be a typo on the Asus website.

Can't wait for a Merlin release on the 3.0.0.4.271 branch.
The new wireless driver (.3xx branch) is nothing but trouble over here.

The long wait shows on my uptime counter. :D

+1. I ran into all sorts of problems (disconnects, non-connects, massive speed drops, you name it) with the .3xx branch, especially but not only in the 5 GHz band. Now that I downgraded to the updated .2xx branch firmware the troubles are gone.

loving the new firmware so far. my 5ghz is now putting out 300mbs solid with 70% signal strength downstairs.
with .270 firmware i was getting maybe 144 mbs if i was lucky.
