Well, what's really strange is that the download page is showing 272, but the file coming down is 271 and is showing as 271 on the device interface after installation.
Clear your browser cache and then reload the GUI. You should now see the updated version number within the GUI. That is all. As you were.

Mine does the same too when I select the 272 file from the Asus website and extract the folder it shows the 271 file, I think this is how its supposed to be for some odd reason lol

Sorry to take this thread slightly OT. I've had this router for a little over a year and a half and I'm only now getting into the "guts" of it by updating firmware. I'm a little confused at all the firmware ver. numbers listed on this thread. Last night I updated the firmware through the Asus web based UI and it updated to ver. 3.0.0.4.260. That's going directly from the UI. But going to the Asus web site and reading this thread I see that there are different vers with higher numbers. Should I DL the latest from the Asus site and flash that or just stick with what I have? I'll appreciate any info.

Thanks.

If nothing is broken, I'd say don't bother. If ya just want to upgrade, stick with .27x builds or something is likely going to end up broken =/

any ideas to why the Router itself when checking for firmware updates thinks there are no available updates please ?

I did an auto firmware update a few months back and it updated to 3.0.0.4.354 - which looking at Asus website doesn't now exist (I think it might have been a beta ?) - but it seems strange its not detecting the 2 or 3 firmware updates that have been released since ?

I guess its a good idea to manually update to 3.0.0.4.372.1393 ?

Great router though - very impressed with it - apart from it does get a little warm ...

thanks for any help

Buckster,

Asus is in the middle of working on some firmware updates. Firmware .272 is a pretty good firmware. .372 is pretty good too, except some people (me) have trouble with .372 5Ghz depending on their wireless adapter.

If you use Aicloud, then you should definitely update to .372 since it fixes a security vulnerability.

And Merlin has a new firmware that allows you to have your cake and eat it to (if you have a wireless adapter that doesn't work quite right on 5Ghz). See Merlin thread for details.

At the present moment, I'm using stock .372 (not the 1393). It works really well for me except for the 5 Ghz. I'll probably download Merlin's latest firmware soon. I didn't give .372.1393 much test time as it did not resolve my 5 Ghz issues.

If you don't use Aicloud, then .272 (.271) is a really good firmware.

Merlin's "have your cake and eat it too" firmware is indeed probably best right now. Unless you have an Xbox 360 on your wireless network, in which case, don't bother.

@bad teddy

You should try using a power line adapter for your Xbox. I've used them in the past for HD video streaming and gaming with consoles and they worked fine.

Maybe send thiggins a pm to see if you can test and do the write up for the ones he has.

Obviously, I assume that it is not possible to use Ethernet to wire your Xbox.

I guess you could try power line and if it doesn't work, you can return to the store. I didn't have any lag when gaming over power line adapter.

Thankfully nothing seems to be broken. I just wanted to know what, if anything, I might have been doing wrong or if maybe there was something broken. I went ahead and flashed the 271/272 firmware since there seems to be a general agreement that it's a good ver. Still, curious as to why the newest updates aren't being picked up through the router's UI.

Thanks.

Nah, none of that for me. I'd just buy the add-on wireless adapter if I wanted to throw that kind of cash at the problem. Not to mention my router is nowhere near a power outlet (already has its own extension to reach its location), so I'd have to buy and run another giant ethernet cable across my house, in which case I'd might as well just run such a cable directly to the Xbox. I already sort of hate the one running to the router from my modem lol.

All will be "resolved" in a few months anyway. My Xbox 360 is soon to become a Netflix box for my oldschool tube TV. The lack of streaming speeds on the firmwares that actually work otherwise won't matter at that point.

Not sure. Never bothered with it personally.
