Following on from a previous post about suspicious offset etc, followed the commands and had these outputs. Only thing I'd changed is modified servers to local ones. Are these outputs legit? Or have I cocked something up?

It looks like you are not using chrony. You are not using any of these servers. Instead of ^- you should see ^* and ^+.
Did you switch the timeserver to chronyd in the spdMerlin script?

presuming you meant ntpmerlin, yes cronyd is selected as the timeserver.

Done, thanks once again Jack! This is the problem when a novice tries to explore editing code haha..

I'd tried to get servers closer to my location to improve, once the ntp settles down, is there any other improvement to be done?

I know someone else has mentioned it previously and it may be entirely a co-incidence, but I did some gaming last night after making the changes and the performance of the internet (for gaming) seemed noticeably punchy..

ok, lets take a step back here for a second: 0.4 ms is four ten thousandths of a second, and the 6-ish ppm drift means 6 pulses per million.
That makes the crystal chip/clock in your router pretty damned good, and fairly stable.
because it is stable, and only needs slight occasional correction, the data mechanisms of the router don't need to be manipulated as much to keep data flowing at the best speed - that manipulation and error correction slows things down, as you can now see from the gaming experience you've described
in a speedtest, has your connection speed improved? that's not what matters - user experience has improved probably exponentially compared to whatever amount throughput capability has.

Had another few tweaks with the NTP addresses to try and improve further.

Yes, I've noticed speed test output has increased ever so slightly.

I'm going to see how it goes tonight with some more gaming to see if it wasn't just a co-incidence!

If you really want to be SUPER tight - look into your poll times. 2^10 is 1024 secs, about 17 mins.
If you adjust polling to 6, your router will ping the reference servers every 64 sec and adjust accordingly
that'll tighten things up significantly on your network...a lot can happen in a million or so nanoseconds ;-p

Had another few tweaks with the NTP addresses to try and improve further.

Yes, I've noticed speed test output has increased ever so slightly.

I'm going to see how it goes tonight with some more gaming to see if it wasn't just a co-incidence!

I'm fairly new to it all too and just trying trial and error to find what works best. It looks good to me, but I'm not sure how many of those servers are fairly local.

Code:
pool time.apple.com
pool time.google.com

server ntp5.leontp.com iburst
server ntp.shr.ug iburst

That's my server list in my config file and gives me 11x stratum 1 NTP Servers. I've checked UK servers database to decide on those, plus the pool options of apple and google NTP Servers..

The poll times start off around 6 but then seem to drift to 10, is there somewhere I can edit this?

I get the following errors during restart.

Feb 9 14:14:46 chronyd[31467]: Fatal error : Another chronyd may already be running (pid=3145), check /opt/var/run/chrony/chronyd.pid

The only way I can fix it is hard reboot. Is there a way manually I can stop and then start chronyd ?

I had a similar issue today after updating the latest ntpmerlin through amtm. Really weird and the problem persisted after a full uninstall and reinstall of ntpmerlin. I actually can't get ntpmerlin to work at all right now and had to entirely remove. Basically after every reboot ntpd wasn't syncing until I manually restarted the ntpd service, then all was fine. This was reproducible upon every reboot with my setup. I've been using ntpmerlin without issue for a long time really strange. Figured I'd keep uninstalled for now and give it another go after the next firmware release. Observed the same issue when configured for chronyd or ntpd.

AX86U latest merlin release.

unrelated to ntpmerlin. ntpd/chronyd from ntpmerlin do not start until the firmware's built-in ntpd has synced. if this isn't syncing, then ntpmerlin wont start. you could try this: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/mounting-issues-with-add-ons.69807/post-658338

I managed to manually do the restart. Run /opt/etc/init.d/S77chronyd (stop | start). This produced no errors and restarted just fine.
