Can someone tell me if the use of this software wears out flash memory earlier than it should? Is this due to lots of jffs writes?

I have ab-solution 3 installed with the medium host file.

Model RT-AC68U

If I'm using my router as a modem as well does 40 percent ram usage out of 250meg sound right for day to day usage or is this a lot?

AB writes very little to the jffs, even if you change settings. The file that gets changed the most is on your USB device (/adblocking/scripts/ab_dnsmasq_postconf.sh) and is only linked in the dnsmasq.postconf file in jffs.
Also, I would stop worrying about the wear, it's more of a myth than reality if you read up on it.

Your RAM usage seems a bit high, but if you have other services or a lot of devices then that figure would likely be normal. Nothing to worry about.
AB RAM usage depends very much on the hosts file type you use.

I don't know why, but accessing the lan differently gives different results. When I just ssh to a locally connected machine, it queries, finds it in hosts.dnsmasq, and forwards upstream anyway. When I ping the machine, it does same but gets a reply query[PTR] 3.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa
But when I access a service on my lan, my gigaset voip web UI for example, it queries, gets it from hosts.dnsmasq and that's it.
As the developer, I am more concerned why the IPv6 entries are added even if it clearly is not set.
It boggles my mind how that even is possible.

If I were you, I would start over and perhaps follow this guide.

I'm quite anal like that anyway, so this is basically what I'd do. There's a new asus firmware which I'll use first..
Would being connected to my vpn affect it at all? A bug if it does I guess.

Both are not likely. And that bug would really bug me. If it were one, it would have been reported long before you did.

Would it be possible to, somehow, include some sort of code for removing links embedded in links? Like the "Clean Links" plugin to Firefox?

Example: On the swedish web site blocket.se, there is nearly always an embedded link within a link, so I might see:
https://www.blocket.se/stockholm/Igeldammsgatan_38__Stockholms_stad_70919236.htm?ca=11
But if I click on that link, it will expand to:
https://logs2.xiti.com/go.ad?xts=37...sgatan_38__Stockholms_stad_70919236.htm?ca=11

So I would like the first part to be removed, the logs2.xiti.com, and ten just send the https://www.blocket.se and so on.

Is this even possible at the stage that AdBlock works on? Or is this only possible within the web browser?

I'm getting closer and closer to setting up a pfsense environment with extra extra CPU power...
Wait with what I come up with AB-Solution X.
It'll blow your mind...

Happy New Year to all of you!
See you on the other side.

Hi,
Just installed your software for the first time and am very pleased with the results. Night and day difference on web browsing.
One question, how do you change the ip address assigned to pixelserv?
I'm rearranging my ip addresses and want to move it.

Thanks!

You'd either have to wait for the update to come out or look through the posts early in this thread where I explain how to do it.

Hi any way to make it work while router is on repeater mode
set the pixel ip to 192.168.1.3
the main device set on 192.168.1.2 and set to give ip from range of 192.168.1.6

Asus is given ip of 192.168.1.6
any time i enter 192.168.1.3 it send me to asus login page

DHCP services and DNS queries will be handled by the main router, so dnsmasq is turned off in repeater mode. AB3 won't work in this mode so there is little point in trying to run pixelserv either.

After installing ABS3, I cannot access Asus web GUI by 192.168.1.1. Asus Router app failed to authenticate as well.

Do I need to add 192.168.1.1 to whitelist somehow? This looks a silly behavior....:)

This is NOT normal behavior of AB-Solution 3.

Sorry it is a false alarm and has nothing to do with ABS3. After rebooting the router, everything works as expected. It could be some setting change that requires rebooting or random glitch.

I did some tests with ipv6 having turned it off on my RT-AC87U. Just as predicted, the router did not run out of memory when sorting the white/blacklists when ipv6 is turned off.

For the record, I'm using ipv6rd.

Using ipv6 seems to cause memory issues with everything, not just ABS. I was away during the holidays for a week and using an OpenVPN tunnel extensively with my ipad and mobile phone.

When I got home, nothing connected to the router got any connection nor ip-address assigned. Using a wired connection or WiFi didn't matter. Strangely enough, I could still connect throught the OpenVPN tunnel from an outside connection and use it.

Rebooting the router solved it, but before I did it I quickly looked through the open processes and the list was full of processes with 'ipv6' in their name that used up available memory.

I hate to admit it, but there is in fact an error in my coding that adds these IPv6 entries even if the service is disabled.
This only happens when certain other services are set as well.

Thanks for the (unintended) reporting!
Will be fixed in the upcoming AB3.1 update.
