Personally, I have NEVER used "Smart Connect" and never will. I don't want the router mucking with the connections period. As a best-practice, I create a different SSID for 2.4/5 GHz band on each router. I can look at the name of the SSID and know exactly what I'm getting or if there's a problem, then I know which routers is down. Maybe I've been lucky but in the past 5+ years, we never, ever get disconnects unless I'm mucking with the routers in upgrades or AMTM stuff. This is on both RT-AC86U/AC88U/1900U models. I think heading down that same road may help stabilize your wireless setups. Cheers.

Yes, I do what you do and it works well.

Furthermore, I don't add both bands to my devices; each device will only get EITHER 2.4 or 5.0, not both. This way I don't have to deal with a device flipping back and forth between 2.4Ghz and 5GHz.
Typically I have my IoT devices and security cameras on 2.4 and more modern smart devices (phone tablet laptop chromecast) on 5.0. Theoretically when I go on vacation I can turn off my 5ghz network and leave my 2.4ghz network enabled, to reduce a potential attack vector.

^^^^ Yes sir. Most IoT device makers use the older 2.4GHz b/c it's a cheaper chipset and it has a much longer general range b/c of the lower frequency. Of the 7 or so "IoT" and cams I have, all of them are 2.4GHz/bn with no option at all for 5GHz. If you wanted you could create an SSID just for the IOT devices.... Cheers.

There should be a checkbox on the wifi settings telling the router not to use any DFS channel when auto selecting one.

I’m pretty sure I had that selected in the past.

Can it be it got unchecked after the factory reset I did on 384.14?

Just upgraded my AX-88U from 384.14. IPSEC VPN works, but I am having a problem turning on 802.11ax / Wi-Fi 6 mode. I select "Enable" and click Apply, and when it comes back the setting is still disabled. I'm eager to test out OFDMA.

I have Smart Connect dual band enabled, WPA2 personal authentication, and one remote AiMesh node in the system. Anything else I should check before I file this as a bug?

Ensure your 2.4ghz is set to auto instead of n or legacy only. I noticed if I set my 2.4ghz to n only it caused this problem.

Channel Width at 20Mhz is actually good for 2.4Ghz and the router won't go for 40Mhz if it finds interference so as I said in my initial post you'll have to experiment a little to find the appropriate channel which your router will stick to and for that you'll have to try all the channels (1 to 11) to find what's good for your environment.
This trick, in reality, didn't completely disable ACSD so the router can still make the channel change forcefully if it finds interference on the selected extension or control channel.

DoT Problem - still after upgrade to 384.15 on my AX88...

So I have one web site that never works for DoT access. Well it works for "some" time, then it starts failing again.

Can someone somehow validate if this is something special just for me, or something DoT that may or may not work?

However after a while, not sure how much but a couple of hours for sure, it will fail yet again. Very hard to say how long as I mention, but it will fail.

When I clicked the blue button I got:
login003.stockholm.se’s server IP address could not be found.
I was following blocked domains in Diversion and nothing came up. I'm using cloudflare for DoT and 384.15.

I did the same process using Firefox and it's built in DoH (using cloudflare) and the site behind the blue button loaded fine.

What speed do you guys get at 20mhz 2.4?

I am running still .12 build, and notebooks are connected at 54mbit, instead of expected 300... No legacy enabled..


I am also unable to save 40/auto MHz , after reboot it's back to 20

So maybe time to upgrade

I could be imagining things but there seems to be more on the 2.4GHz band now but still seems to work fine.

And I see Diversion, Uptime and Speedtest both twice in the Tools tab.

YOU seem to miss the problem: as I mentioned the issue here is that when one turns OFF DoT and then back ON, it works - every single time. And if I use for example my mobile phone, disconnects it from WiFi supplied by my AX88, the web page comes up every single time - that is over my mobile operator ISP.

And please do observe that Stockholm has problem with the SIGN IN Process ("inloggning"), and not response to web page where one selects which "bankid" version to use - at the stage I showed above you still has NOT signed in at all. This is all about DNS (over TLS on/off/on) - and nothing else as far as I can see this.

Dirty upgrade from 384.13 three days ago. No drops until now.

Ah, OK. Use DoT in the phone? And it never fails there?
If you add a private DNS on your phone and verify that is it DoT enabled (for example 1dot1dot1dot.cloudflare-dns.com and verify it with 1.1.1.1/help)...
Anyway... so far no issues here. Haven't disabled DoT ever.

I also have problems with 384.14 on my AX88U and DoT with NextDNS. After some time I can not open new Websites, it seems that the names don't get resolved anymore. I could net tell when it happens, but a reboot helps. Sometimes after I change something on the WebIF, DoT stops working and some domains won't get resolved. So I think there is something wrong with the DoT implementation.
