my isp tech support is hopeless lastime i asked thw over seas rep has no i dead whar i asked, i hope if merlin has time he might be able to look into it. I do suspect it can be set lower than 1500 but the router refuses to reconnect this is under automatic ip, but under pppoe if the mru was set lower than 1492 it was refusing to reconnect but if the mtu was changed it was fine, the annoying part is if the isp says its lower than x value i cant set it becuase of the above issue.I would check with your internet provider. I have seen mine install fiber at several sites I support with some MTU set at 1492 and others at 1500. I never have followed up as to why. But they both work.
is 1492 as recommended by the providerCheck the MTU and MRU setting on the WAN page. PPPoE is usually 1492 as there is 8 bytes used for the header.
Bug: in the tools, other settings section the following will not remain checked for either setting for the RT3200:
Wan: Use DNS probes to determine if WAN is up (default: Yes)
