Had a thought about this...have you considered using the wireless driver from your 26b firmware in your next beta firmware for rt-n66u users; i.e. if the firmware is installing on an rt-n66u then use wireless driver "26.b", otherwise use wireless driver "27"? You'll get more testing of new features and fixes that way. I've been using 26b for quite some time now after the one in 27 didn't work well for me.

Or just move the wireless driver back to 26b for everyone, that would be easier, but I don't know if either of these choices is worthwhile for you in moving forward.

Just a thought, wondering if it might help. I'd be happy to test new beta firmware that uses the 26b wireless driver.

Already tried, and after spending two evenings on this I gave up. It's not just the wireless driver that was updated by Asus, but the whole Broadcom SDK, which went from 5.100 to 5.110. That means kernel, linked libraries, newer CTF version with PPPoE support, parts of the build environment, etc... I never succeeded in getting the newer FW code to work with the older SDK components.

Thanks for trying, I understand that it just isn't worth the time to go backwards. I was thinking that there might be a few infrastructure implications of trying to move the wireless driver backwards, looks like you've run into all of them *smile*.

26b is working fine for me, so no complaints on that. Guess that moving forward for us rt-n66u owners will have to wait until Asus fixes their wireless driver.

After over half a year of lurking on these threads, toiling and learning silently with the others, I finally felt compelled to register to (firstly) thank Merlin and to remark how I'm constantly amazed by your dedication to the project (which might be obvious to most, but we really couldn't say that enough)...

...but most of all to express how astonished and baffled I always get by the prompt, polite, helpful responses you continue to offer, in spite of people demonstrating a lack of diligence and the courtesy to (at least) read the particular thread from the start, who frustrate even a bystander like me. I guess that's could be a part of why some insist on strictly policing the discussions, with the intent to make your work easier by willingly playing the "bad cop."

Anyways. Me, I've been sequentially tracking the official builds from .3.178 to this point at .4.354 where I finally feel comfortable/prepared enough to get the show going with wrt-merlin. At latest I'll be jumping in with the Beta2, but if theres anything about my N66U setup which happens to make it a relevant testing environment for the release branch, please let me know.

• 100Mbps ISP (California)
• Across 2.4/5/guest, 6 macs, 3 iphones, 2 ipad minis, a kindle, a partridge in a pair tre
• a WD NAS via eth, a model preconfigured for DLNA alongside TimeMachine, but < 3TB
• a WD HD via usb2, 1GB-ext3/1GB-hfs+ (just being optimistic)
• QoS rule-set which ended up quite different from others I'd seen here
• Dyn Standard subscription (moved off of OpenDNS)

I'd be glad to assist how I can. Otherwise, if there isn't a particular benefit to QA'ing with this setup right now, I'll probably await your next release (with excitement).

craleon, considering you're running the N66U, you may want to wait until Asus releases new wireless drivers (which Merlin mentioned could take some time). I personally found it unusable with my MacBook Pro, as the 5ghz would take a long time to connect, frequently disconnect, and just generally be less reliable than older versions. If you do end up trying it though, I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Thank you I think I am lucky to also have a loyal userbase following the project, especially considering this is a pretty small project compared to Tomato or DD-WRT, which both benefit from a much wider variety of supported routers. It allows me to spend less time these days answering questions as others can step in and help those with questions. That gives me more time to spend on the code itself.

I'd be glad to assist how I can. Otherwise, if there isn't a particular benefit to QA'ing with this setup right now, I'll probably await your next release (with excitement).

I don't currently recommend going with 354 when you have an RT-N66U due to the serious wireless issues with its new driver. If however Asus's own 354 beta works great for you (it all depend on the wireless cards you are using in your devices), then you could benefit from the added goodies of my builds.

Might be best to wait for the next beta at this point however. I originally intended to have it out tonight, but a last-minute bug report from a user is going to make me delay this release as I try to sort out the reported issue. Hard to say when that will happen since this issue is a bit tricky to fix (at least I know what is happening now), so it could be sometime this weekend, or it could get pushed back to next week.

The main goal with Beta 2 is mostly to give a bug-fixed version to people running 354.28 as we wait for fixed wireless drivers. There won't be any feature change until after I can make a final stable release with these drivers. So beyond that, what I mostly need feedback on currently is the new Site Survey, and any potential regression (new bugs) introduced with recent changes.

Are you possibly investigating the neighbor table overflow error I reported? I've given up trying to patch it, I have ipv6 disabled for now as I can't stand errors in the syslog

The issue you mention is simply your router having to track an overwhelming number of hosts. Increasing the three threshold values will resolve it, unless for some reason your ISP is exposing you to thousands of hosts, in which case it would be an issue on their end.

I'm working on resolving a service start conflict at boot time which results in dnsmasq failing to start when using certain types of WAN connections (mostly any WAN that is VPN-based). I know where the problem lies, the problem is finding a clean way to fix it, and testing to see if it has any impact on the web redirection feature that I reimplemented a few betas ago to resolve LAN name resolution when there is no active WAN connection. Yes, it's a nice domino effect...

My web GUI keeps locking up and becomes completely unresponsive. I've tried rebooting and rolling back to previous saved settings and have tried a hard reset. I cannot open log file as this immediately causes the hang. All wired and wireless continues to work I just cannot get into the GUI.

Any ideas anyone please? Does it sound like a hardware rather than software fault?

Try a different browser.

Also if you have any USB disk plugged in, try unplugging them and rebooting.

I just bought a second RT-AC66U that says its HW Ver. A1 (on the box), I am setting it up as an Access Point. I updated it to (Merlin build) 3.0.0.354.28 Beta1. It says it is Bootloader (CFE) 1.0.1.4.

My original RT-AC66U says that its HW Ver. A2 (on the box), It is set up as my main router also running (Merlin build) 3.0.0.354.28 Beta1. It says it is Bootloader (CFE) 1.0.0.8.

The new RT-AC66U that I set up as Access Point is not displaying the time correctly for my Time Zone "(GMT-09:00) Alaska" even after reboot.

I also have this on ADMIN>SYSTEM page; * Remind: The System time zone is different from your locale setting.
