Atium Bead was mostly a preview release. 374.35_4 is what I recommend RT-AC68U users run.

RMerlin, FWIW did the update today. Rock solid so far, wireless speeds are VG on both 2.4 and 5, markedly improved. Also hooked up my USB External drive to the router, started up Time Machine backups for my MacBook Air (wirelessly) and it was flawless.

We're all looking for that 'perfect' combination of features, reliability, speed, and flexibility. The one box, that will be the box that doesn't make us look around. Thanks to your efforts, we're way closer today.

Thanks again for your huge efforts on our behalf.

Hello Merlin,

First of all I want to thank you for your efforts. I just purchased an ac68u. I have installed your latest firmware, but have notice what seems to be a glitch. When in the network map section if I click on clients they all show up fine but if I click on refresh all I see is the rotating circle " scanning". If I reboot router it will populate again or if I turn of either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz radios and back it will populate. I have tried installing asus firmware and it functions fine, if I reinstall your firmware again I have the problem. Even if I reset and start from scratch.

Thanks for testing Time Machine - that's the first feedback I get about it, so I didn't even know for sure that it worked.

Merlin, had anything else changed from 35_2 to 35_4? My wired speeds have returned to max 40mbps, _2 is fine though _4 does have better wifi performance at the cost of wired speed. Why can't I have best of both worlds? this is becoming frustrating lol.

Example. _2 gets me -80db and at the same spot _4 will manage -60db.

I have held back from updating 35_2 to 35_4 as I thought it was just VPN fixes, which I do not use. But I may have to update and see if wireless performance is improved.

No other change beside what was mentionned in the changelog: VPN-specific changes, and a bugfix in the port forward code specific to Load Balancing mode. So there shouldn't be any change in either wifi or wired speed.

@Merlin Thanks for all your hard work on this project.

I am currently have a new RT-N66U running your 3.0.0.4.374.35_4 firmware. Is that the firmware you recommend? Or should I use something else?I don't have any usb hard drives connected nor am I using any VPN functions. The furthest wireless client is about 70 ft. The rest usually or within 40 ft of the router with no unusual construction or blockages.

The rescan process can take many minutes to complete. Once started it should not be interrupted - let it run. You can safely leave that page during that time, the process will continue working in background.

Left it all day not one item has shown up in the client list. Also just noticed if I just turn off wifi using the button on side of unit and back on again it starts populating right away.

I know what your talking about but when I did what Merlin suggested and that is just wait it out about 3 to 5 minutes all shows ok. It just takes time like watching paint dry but it works. Seems there could be a better way, other routers I have had are not like this and show instantly.

No clients ever show in the client list after clicking refresh no mater how long I wait. I clicked on refresh this morning and after work still nothing in the list unless I turn wifi off and then back on, or reboot router. With the asus original firmware it works no problem.

hi Merlin
why with me
i used all firmware restart after one hour
last firmware try 3.0.0.4.374.35
only work with me
3.0.0.4.270
i try all time upgrate the firmware No luck
can you tell me what the problem please
sorry my English

The new hybrid webui that merges both my old webui and Asus's own webui is used accross all router models with OpenVPN support.

Thank you

This is something done by the firmware, not by the end-user. I implemented it that way on the RT-AC56/RT-AC68U, but it's too late to change it on the RT-AC66U as it would cause everyone to lose their JFFS content.

I guess I do not fully understand this. So if I upgrade my firmware I will lose my Jiffs partition. You will not implement it because people will lose their jiffs partition. Why would you not implement it with a warning that the jiff needs to be backed up for this version and then it is done and implemented for all. Guess I am a bit confused with regard to your response. Will I lose my partition during firmware upgrade and how do other people not.

Regards

Did you un-zipp the downloaded firmware first?

As you are coming from a very early version, you shall do a factory reset after the firmware upgrade and re-enter all the configuration manually.

With kind regards
Josip

I never said you WILL lose your partition when upgrading firmware. I said you MIGHT. Big difference.

OpenVPN keys

Hi Merlin

First, thanks for your great job improving the ASUS firmware.

I have one question to you:
Can you please change the width of the window showing the different keys for OpenVPN.
The last 10 characters of every line are moved down to the next line.

It looks like "this":
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
MIIFATCCA+mgAwIBAgIGAUH4767dMA0GCSqGSIb3
JESzEPMA0G
.... many more lines ....
A1UECAwGVmlib3JnMQ8wDQYDVQQHDAZWaWJvcm
cxGDAWBgN
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

Best regards
Peter
