I have no idea why my log has random May 5 entries, but it has done that for many years and I've never been able to determine why.
The May 5 date is normal when booting or restarting. The router uses that date during the boot process until it obtains the current date and time via NTP.

If you are asking about the 3006.x firmware with it's Guest Network/VLAN support, then see the other discussions on the 3006.x firmware Merlin development, why only a couple of routers are currently supported at this time, and why there isn't a solid time frame of when/if other AsusWRT 5.0 supported routers will be added.

This discussion topic generally is confined to the 3004.388.8 and 3004.388.8_2 firmware.
Thank you. This is the exact information I was looking for.

Thanks for the reply - yes I did look at the log, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Attached is the syslog when I applied 388.8_2 and when the router rebooted. I have no idea why my log has random May 5 entries, but it has done that for many years and I've never been able to determine why. I may be overthinking this, but doesn't a Merlin firmware release usually follow an Asus firmware release? Asus's last fw release for the AX3000 was April 2024 which coincides with Merlin 388.7 (which works fine on my AX3000). There has been no firmware release for the AX3000 from Asus since April 2024, so perhaps 388.8 no longer supports the AX3000?
Actually mine is TUF-AX3000 not RT-AX3000, different model. TUF-AX3000 is supported by Gnuton based on Merlin FW. Thank you.

Speedtest on router directly seems to have halved. From 900Mbps to 500Mbps. ONT to PC is 900Mbps down so not sure what’s caused such a great reduction on this firmware

Post the router you are having the speed halved on so others with the same router can compare.

Nothing in the firmware caused this. 3004.388.8_2 changes are almost all related specifically to OpenVPN.

Most like OP has (un)knowingly enabled QoS or bandwidth limiter somewhere is his configuration...

Found the culprit, was driving me insane! I disabled Skynet and speeds are back to normal. So no issues with this firmware :)

I had the same issue with Skynet many releases ago and ultimately just disabled it and got an instant boost in WAN performance.

RT-AX68U Firmware:3004.388.8_2.
First "USB Mass Storage device detected" then "USB disconnect". "device number" form 2 to 127 will loop until I reboot the router.

I don't know what question to ask yet :) Just for information.
This happened to me as well on my AP but a reboot fixed it.

possible bad url on the "Advanced Settings>WAN - Internet Connection" page. the "FAQ" (NAT Type) url points to the following:

unfortunately, it's now an aimesh info page. perhaps asus changed it on or about 7/22.

granted, this is a nit likely involving asus. looking further and attempting a web/google search using the string "nat type symmetric fullcone site:asus.com", the page appears to have gone, poof! that FAQ link may just need to be disabled for now or is there some way to report it to asus?

Maybe someone knows how this can be detected automatically so that the router can be rebooted immediately?
disconnect the USB before doing a FW upgrade might help avoid the prolem
