Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.9 is now available

ASUS RT-AX68U fw 3004.388.9

Does the new dropbear have limitations?
I'm seeing an access problem from the Home Assistant integration:
Code:
Apr 12 09:04:13 dropbear[5255]: Child connection from 192.168.2.225:44326
Apr 12 09:04:13 dropbear[5255]: Exit before auth from <192.168.2.225:44326>: No matching algo hostkey
See RMerlin's post two places above yours.

P.S. You never followed up on your previous question: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/mdns-on-different-subnets-via-vpn.94195/post-948589

I have just installed the FW 3004.388.9 in an RT-AX88U and I have found in ADMINISTRATION - Firmware Update Tab the following option that I thought does not apply for RMerlin firmware:
Screen shot.jpg

I have not accepted the second EULA that has appeared the first time I have accessed to the GUI, but if I finally accept, does this mean that the firmware will be updated automatically?.

Another cosmetic change I have noted is related to the network map:
screen shot 2.jpg

The space for the clients name seems shorter and the space for the client IP address seems wider than before (maybe is this the reason why some people has overwritten names?).

"Security updates" and not firmware updates, they are two different things.

Firmware updates aren't automated on Merlin firmware, at least without AMTM add-ons.

OK, so then, is it related only to the Tendmicro stuff?. I have Ai Protection ON, so I do not understand to which security it applies ...

Asus' security daemon (asd) process I believe. More info here:

Thank you for pointing me to this information!

No I'm not. So my 86U won't be getting updated Merlin firmware? Thank you!
Sorry I made a mistake, AX86U is supported, check that you are using the correct firmware for the router model. Several years ago, the advice used to be if there was an upgrade problem, to reboot the router prior to the upgrade, don't know if this is still necessary.

Okay. I'll try that tomorrow. Kids and wifey will kill me if I end the wifi. LOL Thanks man! 👍

AX86U is suppoted and works just fine, just make sure you download the right FW, the link from @dave14305 above.
I'm on it now, been solid after some initial challenges with WiFI Authentication Method setting, but once that was changed, 100%

Thanks, I think the problem is this: "Disable SHA-1 algorithms by default". I wrote to the author of the Home Assistant integration about the problem, but I haven't found yet how to temporarily enable SHA-1.
You can't, it's controlled at compile time. Just generate new keypairs that uses SHA256 - SHA1 has been deprecated for many years now.

I dirty updated my RT-AX86U to 388.9 by Latest MerlinAU updater without problems.
Got the EULA pop-up, didn't take it.
👍

Upgrade from .8 successful. I see that my AX68U gets a new WiFi firmware:
Mar 21 2025 09:46:48 version 17.10.157.2809 (r801046)

AX86U:
Upgraded and had the same issue as @aex.perez and @ExtremeFiretop, where I needed to change my GuestNetwork2 bands to WPA2 mode. Mixed WPA2/WPA3 mode which has been solid since the router was new is now broken. That's for both bands. Home page(Network Map) now shows WPA2 in the security box but the main network for the 5GHz band still shows WPA2/WPA3(which is unchanged).

Used an iPad 7th Generation for testing, as it lost its connection on the GN2 slot 5GHz band on mixed mode WPA2/WPA3. This was previously working rock solid on 3004_388.8_4.
GN1 and GN3, both bands, are unused. Have used the GN2 bands since new.
