Is there any way to enable password paste for the login? I am usingpassword manager and I have 20chr generated password and typing it every time I want to login is annoying.
Well, there was a friendly discussion regarding this recently, started by a Merlin fan who went on to compare Merlin to some ...well, forget about that.

The situation is the following: This change has been intruduced by Asus and they're still actively working on the login related code. Once the code has been stabilized and Asus stops changing it on a regular basis, Merlin will probably make it possible to adjust this in order to make the login easier (and less secure) for those people who prefer it that way.

With RT-N66U With This version 378.55, anything plugged in second USB port, always remain "unmounted".
I tried with HDD 500GB WD USB 3.0 and with SanDisk Extreme 64gb USB 3.0
In first USB port all work perfectly, in the second nothing.
In the second are detected correctly but always unmounted.
Both are with only one primary NTFS partition.
And other problem: Download Master impossible to install. Always "server not responding"....

I was upgrading while I read this and you had me worried. I'm using LastPass with the browser extension, and although paste doesn't seem to be enabled, the little LastPass star shows in the password field and can be clicked to insert the password.

I'm using LastPass as well. I've also found that while they've disabled cut and paste they have not disabled drag and drop so if you look at the plaintext password you can select it and drag it to the password field and that works also, at least on FireFox.

I'm not really sure how disabling cut and past makes it more secure. Using good passwords, i.e., ones you don't want to type, at least does help.

Safari as well as LastPass work just fine for me.

I reply to myself. After a few minutes I left the HDD and USB KEY connected to the RT-N66U were both mounted and functioning. Even the one connected to the second USB port.
And for downloading the master, although I had uninstalled, he had left the folder in the HDD. Deleting it manually, the download master server allowed me to re-do the installation. It was not more given the message "server not responding".
This in case someone happened the same things.
Greetings

Disabling paste is more secure because if you copy/paste, a copy of your password is left in the Windows Clipboard, although password safes like KeePass and LastPass may clear the clipboard after a short time to eliminate this as an issue.

Windows Server got rid of pasting in passwords some time ago (over remote access) for a similar reason.

When DDNS update "Forced refresh interval (in days)" then watchdog get crazy and update every 30sek after that.
Im using afraid.org and custom script.

Tested, and I cannot reproduce the issue here. I've set the forced refresh timer to 1 minute (for test purposes), and the script only gets run every minute as it should. The only time it runs again after a 30 seconds watchdog period is if the previous update had failed. And looking at the code I can't see any way for the watchdog to repeat the operation after a 30 seconds period, since the timer immediately gets set back to 0 as soon the period limit is reached.

Okey understand. When the first update failed and then successfully watchdog still trying to update.
Watchdog does not seem to "recover" after successful update.

Hi RMerlin,
I have one issue with DDNS, actually not quite sure it's an issue :)
My current ISP doesn't allocate a new IP address to me very often, usually a few months, so what I found is that if my IP address doesn't change, the force refresh will not work. I'm using No-IP as my DDNS provider, although I set force refresh every 21 days, but I'm still getting manually renew request from No-IP.

Could anyone check the Traffic Monitor function works properly? I got unrealistic speed on my AC-68R, and I have tried clear nvram and it doesn't work.

No-IP now forces free users to validate their account every month. This has nothing to do with the frequency of IP updates, it's a set thing they implemented last year in an attempt to "convince" more users into registering for a paid account.

I am currently using Merlin 378.55 with my RT-AC87U.

May I ask, is the feature of 'blocking' a specific client available in this firmware? I refer to page 22 of the router manual. I am unable to find this 'block' for me to click on. Thank you for any guidance or advice.

That feature has been missing from the stock firmware for a long time. It came back in recent betas with the redesigned networkmap client list, adding a "Block Internet access" button.

I see. I am new to Asus router and am not aware of this. Thank you for your reply.

Although No-IP would like you to login once in a while (as Merlin mentioned), this will be overruled when your IP address changes.
So, if your ISP doesn't allocate a new IP address very often, you could force No-IP to change your IP address every week. (f.i. Sunday at noon).

What you need is a custom userscript (two lines and some variables) which changes your IP address to 127.0.0.1 (or every other IP address), and then changes it back to your real IP address.

Hi,
My ASUS RT-AC66U is running on the Merlin 378.55 build. Overall it runs really great. I only have one problem. When I connect to my NAS (FTP) and try to upload something it is soooo slow! My NAS is on ethernet and my laptop on 5Ghz wifi.

I tried troubleshooting this, but don't know where to look further.....

Duckdns does not impose similar restrictions and it works well on our routers (with a script).

@Merlin: how can we keep this and similar future threads focused on observations that will help improve the next release? Given that this is up to 32 pages, there must be a better way.

Disable Beamforming on the router. If it's an Intel NIC, disable the speed booster setting in Device Manager (forgot the exact name for it). For me that setting actually kills performance rather than enhance it.
