upnp on/off on a ps3/ps4 or dmz reports it as nat2, as it should for most things
NAT Type 2 on the PS4 is good. Whereas the Xbox reports NAT as Open, Moderate or Strict.

which is my point, xbox should report as moderate aka nat2, reguardless if upnp or dmz is used.

open would imply there is nat and there is nat less you bypass the router all together

I installed the 380.57 firmware to my RT-AC68U a couple of weeks back and lost my 5GHz wifi networks. They are available to connect to but either a device can't connect to it or a connection is made but there is no Internet service. Is this a known issue? How do I go about resolving it?

Thanks,

MJ

Did you do a factory reset after the update? There was a change of the wireless drivers for the AC68U and this need a manual reconfiguration...

I did not! I've updated the firmware several times in the last year or so without issue so I didn't think twice about applying this update. When I clicked the link in my email to open this thread I saw the very first entry on page 1
A factory default reset is required specifically for the RT-AC68U, due to the switch to a new SDK + wireless driver. Some people reported having issues with the 2.4 GHz band with this new SDK - if that's your case, the only solution at this time is to revert back to 378.56_2.

So I'll do that. Seems strange to perform a factory reset after installing 3rd party firmware. "Factory Reset" sounds like something that's done to remove Asus Merlin firmware. Nonetheless it's top of my list for tonight. Thanks for the direction joegreat!

I find it's worth doing a hard reset once in a while.

Dear Friends

I have rt-ac3200 and I am still talking with asus support but same problems go on. first my usb 3.0 not working my USB 3.0 WD mybookduo(2tb). I try each type format. Now I flashed merlin but still same. HDD working very well at my compurter but with router not. could somebody help me?

I went ahead and did a factory reset on the router after installing the 380.57 firmware and my problem went from bad to worse. Now the 5Ghz network isn't even broadcasting. Can this be resolved? How?

Thanks,

MJ

How did you do the reset? And did you restore a saved backup config file afterwards?

open nat is same as no nat to get that you have connect to modem directly, if you behind router you gona have nat2, nat3 is strick which means something is wrong atlest this from what i seen on my end and from what i read
That's misleading. I get an open NAT by simply opening a single port.

How did you do the reset? And did you restore a saved backup config file afterwards?
I performed the reset by using the "Restore" option under Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting (tab) > Factory default - Restore. I did not restore a backed up config. I thought about it but decided against it. Was this the right approach?

Yes, ???! What is your question?
And why you use the Trend Micro stuff is you do not want it log what it's doing?

I just upgraded to the latest version on my AC66U. Now, when connected to the 5G network I lose the Internet connection from time to time, not the connection to the router. A reset of the wireless network adapter fixes that, but it happens a lot. I did not do a factory reset when upgrading - could this be the issue??

Just wanted to check if this is normal, seems that the system log an system time are different. The system has the correct time, but the logs seem to be a hour behind...

System Time: Fri, Jan 15 14:16:46 2016
* Daylight savings time is enabled in this time zone.

Logs:
Jan 15 13:16:02 dnsmasq-dhcp[4620]: DHCPREQUEST(br0) .....
Jan 15 13:16:02 dnsmasq-dhcp[4620]: DHCPACK(br0) .....
Jan 15 13:16:06 dnsmasq-dhcp[4620]: DHCPREQUEST(br0) ....

----------EDIT---------

Hmm, no worries, a reboot seems to have fixed it.

Restore to factory default settings is a better description. Have a read of Merlin at: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/

So, after restoring to factory default settings (RFDS), you reinserted each of your personalised settings by hand in the web gui. I'd do it (RFDS) again, but this time reinsert your own settings over time and at each stage check if the router is working properly, leave it a day or so to be sure, and then reinsert another setting. Hopefully, that way, you'll catch at which point things go awry. I'd reset the admin login and the wireless security - and nothing else - and see what it's like.

Have a look at:

I would factory reset, reconfigure and then go from there.

I had to revert back to 378.56_2 too, as my AC68U would not allow the 2.4 Ghz wireless to work correctly. I could see the connections on the router side, but all the devices would show no connection and no internet (even the router page) was visible. Switched back to 378.56_2 and it worked perfect again. I did go through the process of resetting the router (through the factory reset option) and configuring the router completely again, which made the connection on 2.4 work for about 30 minutes and then it was gone again. Cabled and the 5 Ghz wireless worked fine, it was just the 2.4 Ghz. No special settings changed.

If you need more, let me know. I have my configuration file saved when the router was on 380.57.

My AC66 gets 5G issues sometimes when upgrading, and the only working solution is to flash (latest) Asus original firmware and factory reset, and then flash Merlin. I wasted a perfectly good sunday trying to search for an alternative solution when this happened upon upgrading to 56_2.

Hope you have saved settings from a time before the 5G issue manifested itself, in that case reconfiguration is a breeze.
