I did a factory reset and all settings left on default. When I flashed firmware 380.59 thats when the 5ghz led stopped staying on after a reboot but the 5ghz WiFi is working if I flash a older firmware like the last one the led would stay on after a reboot it's like some setting is not serveing the reboot or not serveing thank you for your reply sir

The order of operations is:

Flash new firmware to the unit.
Perform a reset to factory defaults.

380.59 drops media streaming services after a while. 380.58 does not have this issue.

Try the 380.60 alpha 3 beta if your model is supported. It includes changes to minidlna related to broadcasts.

"Routing conflict error" warning is back in this release, it was solved in 380.58,
if I switch OpenVPN (Client) On/Off with IPVanish.

Hope it will be gone in .60 version.

Folks with SMB connectivity issues, try the following smb.postconf:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
CONFIG=$1
source /usr/sbin/helper.sh

pc_insert "[global]" "client use spnego = no" $CONFIG

Windows 7 + Windows Live Essentials tend to mess up with SMB authentication. I thought the issue had been resolved in Samba 3.5.6, but it's possible that it could still be problematic. This would disable the incompatible handshaking support.

sometimes when I click traffic analyser my whole GUI seems to fail, even trying to access login page from another device it just loads forever. requires a reboot to sort, anyone else seen this happening? ac68u.

when this happens no traffic data is logged but internet remains up for all devices

Just upgraded from an RT-N66U to an RT-AC68U HW REV A2 with this firmware 380.59 and been having troubles with an external hard disk.
I've tried with the option "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" enabled and disabled and also connecting the hard disk to the USB 2.0 port but he stops responding to samba requests and also to DLNA requests.

The log when I plug the router and access the Samba I get the following log:

This last part with of kernel log repeats itself lots of time when we try to access samba.

On the top activity I get samba consuming the bigger part of CPU:

When checking on the GUI the CPU 2 is at 100% and when I try to access samba again it says on windows explorer that "Insuficient resources exist to complete the requested service".
After this happens the router gets very slow and after a short while it hangs and stops responding to requests from wired and wireless connections.

I also get the following error on dlna log:

This is very strange as this disk has been working perfectly on the RT-N66U with John's fork for some years.

Can anyone help?

I just wanted to add that the disk that gives problems is a 3TB 3.5" USB3.0 Seagate formated with NTFS and I've tried several USB memory sticks formated with FAT32 without any problems.

Can someone please tell me if you have encountered any DDNS registering error (asuscomm.com) after .59?
Thank you.

Nope, not at all. I just upgraded from an RT-N66U (380.58) to an RT-AC68R (380.59). I renamed my asuscomm DDNS on the old router, made sure it registered successfully, then logged into the new router and registered my original address. Took less than 10 seconds.

I get: request error. please try again...

I am not changing routers, just new firmware and when i try to register DDNS i get that error.
Even if i try with a totally new and different name.

Asus's DDNS service is frequently down. I recommend switching to a different DDNS provider.

@RMerlin

Any idea on this problem??

@RMerlin
Sorry to bother you again. Any other idea to try on the DDNS issue with 87U? I have logged from the same internet connection using my RT-68U and the asus server responds instantly. When i am trying from 87U it says "applying settings" and stays there forever. Once i reload the page the answer is "request error. please try again later"

As I said, try a different DDNS service provider.

For the past couple of weeks the Network Map wasn't loading all of a sudden. I go to Tools > Sysinfo, go down to Ethernet Ports and find this message: 'Querying switch...' Everything plugged into the Ethernet ports and the router itself works fine otherwise. There's days where it queries the switch fine and shows what's plugged in along with the Network Map like normal, other times it goes back to that message. Any ideas what's going on?

You have a device with an invalid name causing Javascript errors. Open your web browser console, and look at the line containing the error - it should tell you what device name is breaking it. Typically, it's caused by devices with quotes in their names.

Thing is, I've been using the same names for the past year and a half I've had this router without issue until now, initially with stock firmware and from 378.51 to 380.59. There's 3 names that use apostrophes but that's it.

Thing is, I've been using the same names for the past year and a half I've had this router without issue until now, initially with stock firmware and from 378.51 to 380.59. There's 3 names that use apostrophes but that's it.

Remove the apostrophes.

I might have just missed this before, but my AC66U is dropping the 2.4Ghz band with 380.59. I notice(d) it now because my Philips Fidelio speakers are unable to connect to my home network (these don't work on the 5 Ghz band which is still available for my iPhone and iPad). My current workaround is to reboot the router.

What else can I do or should I try?

I also just noticed this:

wl0_country_code=EU
wl_country_code=US
wl1_country_code=EU

I have never tinkered with these settings and I have no intention to, as I want to make sure that I follow the appropriate (EU) laws. However, the set currently seems inconsistent to me. Should the "wl_country_code" not also be "EU" instead of "US"? If so, (how) can I (safely) change that?

Also weird: OS X El Capitan's Wireless Diagnostics lists the country as FR while I don't live in France.
