I'm trying to update the firmware, 384.8 to 384.8_2, but I can't load the file.

It's difficult for anyone to comment without more specific information.

When you try to update, does it give any particular error message ?

Did you unmount any USB stick or hard drive before trying to update ?

What model of router is it ?
If it is a converted TM-AC1900, it is not supported by the latest firmware builds. Asus have recently changed their code to prevent this, and this change has been carried over into the Merlin builds.

Anyone know how I can update my firmware?
How much free RAM does it show at the System Status page? Do you use WiFi or Ethernet to update?
I usually have to turn of all JFFS scripts before updating a memory constrained router and always over Ethernet.

303mb free
I choose the update file, but when I click on Upload, it does not do anything.
I use Wifi, but try with ethernet too.

@RMerlin
Any chance of the patches enabling TEE in iptable getting incorporated in your builds?
I am currently frozen to a test build from John because of the missing module.

  • What router model?
  • What additional software, if any, is running on router (e.g., Diversion, Skynet, etc.)?

It's already done, except for the RT-AC86U which I forgot to.

Yes, and try with 3 differents computers.
Use wired connection. Use http and not https to enter webgui.
Try on other web browser. If possible, do a clear cache.
Take out USB if have, restart router and wait 5 min before flashing router.

My upgrades are:
  1. Login, reboot router (this clears any lingering issues and I've found this critical)
  2. Login, backup all settings just in case
  3. Observe warnings about any connected/mounted USB devices
  4. Flash router
  5. Final reboot.
I found the above works reliably for the past 2 years. The other thing to check is if you have any firewalls or AV/Anti-Malware possibly blocking the uploads. Later.

Anyone know how I can update my firmware?
1- Download the good fw for your router
2- Remove all usb devices hooked on the router ( to free up memory)
3- Reboot
4- Flash with 384.8_2 (wait until 100%)
5- Power cycle (off/on)
6- Reset to factory if something act weird after.
It should work
I am always using Firefox with no problem.

Hi,

Is there a GUI typo in the Guest Network panel? See attached screen cap. Both buttons say "Enable". I thought there was the option to either Disable, or Remove a guest network.

Thanks,
Anton

No, there are 3 separate Guest WiFi SSIDs possible per band. You're only using 1 of each.

  • OpenVPN clients will no longer have their download speed limited by the QoS upload limit when in Adaptive QoS mode.

I did installed Merlin FW 384.8_2 on my brand new RT-AC86u right away on the very first boot. I spent all night to configure all my network as it was and the OpenVPN client for CyberGhost with the Policy Rules I need but still all my devices are shown as Upload when Downloading. Missing something?
