Correct, fellow Poutine-eater.

Uh, maybe they’ll take my passport away for saying this, but I’m not a fan of the stuff. Fries, absolutely. Gravy is the ocean that floats my boat. Curds give me tingles of glee with every squeak. Together? Not so much.

Would you be so kind as to ask your missus if she gets kicked off the app for strange/no reasons too, requiring a password reset? I’m trying to suss out if it’s me, my phone, the app, their servers...?

try to remove "dhcp-script=/sbin/dhcpc_lease" from dnsmasq.conf, will it help?

syslog and /opt/var/log/dnsmasq.log will give some light on this.
How can I remove it?
It's not a "my" part of dnsmasq.conf ...
It's possible only via dnsmasq.postconf script and pc_delete, am I right?
Also if you get it to crash again, run "ps w" over SSH and post the list of running processes, so we can see if something else is stuck at high CPU usage.

I experimented a bit with a bogus dhcpc_lease command here, so far I still can't reproduce your issue either.
I have a fast answer - it was monitored via zabbix
Code:
ps axk -pcpu o pcpu,comm|head -n11|tail -n10
Code:
99.7 dnsmasq
2.9 bcmsw_rx
2.3 init
1.2 networkmap
1.2 zabbix_agentd
0.6 jffs2_gcd_mtd9
0.6 nt_center
0.5 nas
0.3 zabbix_agentd
0.2 protect_srv

As I said - no any error records in log, only missed any DHCP related records, like
DHCPREQUEST, DHCPACK, DHCPDISCOVER, DHCPOFFER
Code:

You can copy the dnsmasq.conf file over to /jffs/configs and make the edits yourself. Any conf file in there will override their corresponding stock file.

Just another data point - I upgraded two RT-AC86U's to .14b1 (from .13) - one is a fairly standard home setup, and that went fine (and is still running .14b1 with no issues).

The other is setup where I have a separate server handling internal DHCP, so DHCP is turned OFF on the router. That unit exhibited similar issues to PeterV - ~100% cpu utilization by dnsmasq after a few minutes of operation after reboot, and once it went ~100% it never came back down.

I did not have time to try a factory reset/manual config on that unit, so that is one caveat. I just rolled back to .13 and everything was fine again.

amtm/skynet/diversion installed on both routers, latest versions, with standard configs (no large whitelist/blacklist, etc)

I installed Diversion (Lite, without pixeltls) and recreated your dnsmasq customization on my own RT-AX88U. 14+ hours later still can't reproduce your issue.

Since you both have Entware installed, could you also install the strace package? Once dnsmasq crashes, try to monitor both dnsmasq processes using strace to see what it's currently doing. Retrieve the process ID through "ps w", then run "strace -p PROCESS_ID".

according to the missus, the app works fine, no problems/issues, and she likes it a lot. i think if she had any issues with it, i'd know - since I am basically her personal I.T. Helpdesk

Tried reducing dnsmasq cache to 100 entries, and ran a busy torrent with peers name lookup enabled to generate a lot of cache pressure on dnsmasq (including re-insertions), with thousands of queries. Still no crash after a few hours of testing.

Code:
Nov 19 12:12:58 dnsmasq[7606]: time 4336734
Nov 19 12:12:58 dnsmasq[7606]: cache size 100, 2565/12074 cache insertions re-used unexpired cache entries.
Nov 19 12:12:58 dnsmasq[7606]: queries forwarded 4761, queries answered locally 6636
Nov 19 12:12:58 dnsmasq[7606]: pool memory in use 0, max 352, allocated 2200

You guys must have something very specific that's different.

I'm sorry that I don't have more time to test some more... The only thing that I can think of is to try alpha2 and see if that one is stable, so I know that I can relate the issue the issue to wat PeterV is experiencing. But that I want to do in the weekend because my issue can take like 8 hours before it occurs, and coming weekend I'm not able to. The only thing that I did is add 'rebind-domain-ok=/plex.direct/' to dnsmasq.conf.add to get rid of the Plex rebind issue. Other than that I just use the configuration as I said earlier and I also force clients to use the NTP of the router. In my case it isn't the internetprovider either because it is a double NAT setup. Also not using IPv6. I'm now running on .13 again for several days without this issue.

@PeterV don't you also have the same entry?

I don't have Plex, but that might be a common element between you two.

Could either of you test with either Plex not running, or the rebind entry removed from dnsmasq?

Hi.
Log queries is already enabled.
Nothing special. It wasn't crashed. It use one whole core (100% of core) and wasn't responce on any DHCP queries.
In log it's look like a long time without DHCP queries.
From wifi the symptom is - it's stuck on "Receiving the IP-address".
I can't upload a dnsmasq.conf, there is a pastebin link
Dnsmasq is a simple and objective DNS/DHCP solution. The simpler and default your settings, the better. I recommend leaving the default settings or attaching another more robust DNS server. For dnsmasq, I recommend organizing a restart script every 12h.

The beta on my rt-ac68u says my internet is disconnected when I am online fine.
Chrome and Firefox both do the same thing.
Web page loads and for about 1 second shows me online, my ddns etc then immediately changes to disconnected.

On clicking the disconnected state the right details panel shows my correct wan details such as IP, DNS, subnet, gateway and lease time.

Network monitoring are both unticked.
I then change to use ping to 8.8.8.8 but network map still says disconnected when I am not.

Old issue that has been there for a few months, and which vary between users. Make sure you disable both WAN monitoring options on the Settings (DNS and Ping). This can also happen when interfering with DNS queries used to monitor the WAN connection.

And what are those to be exact? I know about this one "dns.msftncsi.com" any other domains hard coded in the code?

Feedback for 384.14 Beta: Unstable internet connectivity would drop randomly and sometimes would have to restart modem and router for it to come back. Downgraded back to 384.13.

I don't keep track of the exact list.

With zero information about your setup (we don't even know what router that is), there's zero that we can do to troubleshoot it. If rebooting your modem fixes it, then my first suspect would be your modem or your ISP.

Hello all - upgraded from 13_1 on an AC86U as primary node and an AC88U as the mesh node. Mesh node is on the latest stock firmware from asus. The network is working well, no issues with connectivity or performance - I'm running Diversion, Skynet, Scribe, conmon, and DNSCrypt all current versions.

I have noticed the following entry in the main system log every few minutes:
Nov 19 21:37:41 RT-AC86U roamast: determine candidate node [2C:4D:54:20:E7:E0](rssi: -1dbm) for client [F0:99:BF:45:F2:34](rssi: -77dbm) to roam

Nov 19 21:37:41 RT-AC86U kernel: CPU: 0 PID: 16967 Comm: roamast Tainted: P O 4.1.27 #2
