Today after about 25 days of flawless operation, I could not log into the GUI on my 5300. This is the second time a hard reboot has been required in this release. Functionally, the router is handling all traffic without a hitch. The logon screen appears, but after credentials are entered, the router never makes it to the first screen?
Does anyone else have a similar experience?
Have had it happen twice with this release on my RT-AC68U. The first time after about 35 days of up-time, and the second about 5 days after that. Have not previously had the issue in nearly three years of running Merlin FW.

Not sure how long mine was up, but I couldn't log into mine either last night and had to reboot it.

Hmm I've never really used any of trend micro's services all the years using this firmware that would explain why I've never seen this issue.

Hopefully asus will fix soon.

no its there on RT-AC5300 on 384.12 and 384.13. The dump above is representative of what happens after running about a week. Memory starts at 170Mbyte free after reboot around 65% used and then day by day goes to 95% and free ram 25Mb or less and then dumps. I have a 2Gbyte swap - no difference. Never did this under previous firmwares. I am having to schedule reboots every 7 days now. A right pain in the butt.

OK disabled AIProtection and memory used and free memory has remained within 1or 2% over the last 5 days. No more memory leak and no more crashes as per above. Thanks to those that highlighted issue with AIProtection.

Obviously model (firmware) specific, since I do not have it and all of AIProtection is enabled.

At least for the AC86U it was identified a strong incompatibility AIProtection with "virtual" interface for the Pixelsrv-tls.
Currently I'm thinking about some other host for the Pixelsrv-tls.

Likewise here. I have perfectly stable memory usage with AiProtection running full tilt.

Who tried to use Dual WAN on ASUS RT-AC68U router in balancing mode on ethernets? The first in WAN 100 mbit, the second in LAN1 500 mbit. A ratio of 1:2. This works, but it takes a long time to establish a TLS connection.

My 86U's memory sat at 90% for a couple days, this morning was at 91% and it was a good time so I rebooted. Looks like I will need to reboot once a week or so. I'll probably update to .14 once it's beta.

Hi everybody, I'm experiencing two different issues on my new RT-AX88U & Merlin 384.13 directly upgraded from Asus stock firmware:

1) When I push the reboot pushbutton from the GUI (from Win PC or from smartphone by chrome browser), at least one time on five router shuts down and then power off (no lights on) without restart; I need to switch off the phisycal power switch and then put it on again to recover it. Sometimes it happens when the router reboots by the schedule reboot, also. Planned every night.

2) Using asuscomm.com DDNS (after have asked and obtained the DDNS name host reset of the previous RT-AC87U from Asus) the DDNS service never refresh the host and the Let's Encrypt certificate status holds always on "updating...."

RT-AX88U - 384.13 - amtm 2.8 - FreshJR adaptive QoS V8.8

Anybody has the same issue?

Thanks in advance & regards

The reboot and power off was / is a long standing isue with the AC86U.

A resent updated claims to have fixed it, and I have seen a few reports of the AX88U having the same issue. It took ASUS years to fix the 86U, so be warned. You might want to use the search feature of SmallNetBuilders for more info.

For the second point.

Thanks a lot for your kindly & very fast answer!

So I need to wait (if someone will do/find) a solution for each point..

I'll check frequently the snb forum for any news about...

My Best Regards

FWIW with an AC3100, with AIProt enabled, I had the same leak.....disabled and it went away....so I have it disabled for the time being...relying on Skynet exclusively for now.....

Hi Everyone, Can someone please clarify... I have a 500/500 Mbps connection and I get max 210mbps download speed with Asus rt ac86u router, with Asus WRT latest firmware and vpn with UDP protocol. Can I expect even higher speed while vpn cleint is active on Asus Merlin firmware? How can I check if the Asus WRT is using the hardware acceleration for AES NI?

The Cortex A53 cores in the ac86u Support AES NI.

Were you expecting to get 500Mbps out of the vpn connection?

Up to 250-270Mbps with a really fast and very close VPN server.
Most don't go over 180-200Mbps no matter what hardware you have.

DualWAN - PPTP VPN, PPPoE (Load balance):
1. Having overflows with torrents.
2. "TLS handshake"problem.

Q: I'm having Dual-WAN related issues. Can you fix it?
A: Most likely not, because part of the code is closed-source, and the rest is scattered throughout hundreds of thousands of lines of code, and next to impossible to understand.
:-(

Is it an answer from Merlin team ?)
