did u try direct connecting from modem to pc and not use any router.
imo its ur cable internet connection thats the problem and not ur router .
any modem logs?
did u try a different router?
if u tried all above it could be router hw problem and not a fw problem
Its not my cable internet.
The problem only occurs with the ASUS router. connecting directly or using the ARRIS modem (bypassing the asus) does not happen.

and like I said before, I tried 2 cable modems and different cables.
There are countless of people having the same issue online. And everyone says the same, its because of the ASUS firmware. (in my case, it started in 2015 and gradually became worse)

The logs of the Arris do not show anything wrong nor any error.
The Asus logs just shows a ton of "Wan Connection: wan was restored" and "wan was exceptionally disconnected".

Its like the router momentarily loses the DHCP lease and restarts.
Some connections are cut, others are maintained.
and I agree with you, I'm not wondering if my RTN66U finally kicked the bucket (or at least the WAN port).
I'm going to make the router use the LAN1 port and see what happens.

*edit*
30 minutes and not a single WAN DROP warning.
I think the router WAN port definitively is dying.
I am currently using PORT 1 of the LAN.

*edit2*
Router started again to slowdown and feel sluggish, no errors other than random drop connections by the firewall.
I guess my N66 U is dying?

I have installed the alpha version asus rt-ac87u and vpn connection speed drops to activate 300megas 210-240 megs any idea why is this happening?
some bugs is firmware?
regards..

Just wondering if 350.57 has the bug where is wakes network clients when it scans as I am trying to figure out whats causing devices to wake but I am still on 380.57_0

Thanks.

If the CPU load ever get high again, use "top" to determine what's using all the CPU time.

So the slow down started again and SSH'd into router and used top to see whats causing the lag.

I also checked the logs and found some interesting dhcp msgs repeating every few seconds from my laptop... I saw the same dhcp msgs from my voip ata device last time the router slowed down. Can you guys make anything of it?

380.58_alpha4@cda869c

On AC68U and AC56Us up now for over a week, no problems except Traffic....

WAN (arris) 60mb service ok no restarts (charter) turned off IPV6 charter sucks on IPV6!

Look MA it's all black!

think I have a problem with 56Us and BL 1028 & 1029 going to load BL 1027 back on the 56U!
with the WAN led other 4 56Us (ap mode) (bl 1027) don't have a problem with the WAN led?? only diff is the BL being 1028

if did work (BL 1027) as this was my back up DHCP and main router for the AC68U!
alpha 4 is an unofficial build at the moment. you should post your question here: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/unofficial-build-380-58.29787/

Your CPU is mostly idling, so my guess is your problem has to do with wifi, not with the router's CPU. Those constant DHCP queries might indicate that client is having trouble staying connected to wifi.

I did a search in the code today, and couldn't find anything hardcoded to "admin" in rc, so I'm not sure why the router's username would matter.

Can you try setting your username to something different than admin, and post me the output of this command?

Code:
ps w

it will let me see if some process runs with the wrong user.

Hi RMerlin:

When the username is configured as "admin" 17 routes are loaded into routing table. If other user is used, only 7 and that´s the reason of wired behaviour when using IPTV.

I can't think of any logical explanation as to how a different username could impact what routes get applied to the router, sorry. And I don't have IPTV to test anything either.

All your process do run under the correct userid as far as I can tell.

actually, I found the strangest phenomena ever.
It seems my speakers are starting to affect my router.
They did not affect them before.
Perhaps the "shield" of the speakers are damaged now?
Because when I turn on the speaker.. the loss of data and general sluggyness starts.
Once I turn off the speakers.. everything goes back to work at 100% 1 minute after.

Are they Bluetooth?

Try plugging them in a different power bar in case the issue is electrical,.

nope, normal cables. Its a logitech Z906 system.
And what do you mean with " a different power bar" ?
Everything is plugged to the same outlet (under 2 UPS units of 1500VA each one)

Right now I have separated my speakers a bit from the network cables and the Arris router.
So far the connection seems fine and stable.

Try plugging them to a different outlet. It's unlikely to be the cause of your problem since you are using UPSes (which would filter out any electrical noise), but worth a try.

Hi,

The most recent beta has been working great on my RT-AC68U until yesterday when everything slowed down, I logged in to the GUI and found that Core 2 was stuck at 100%

Today the slow down started again however the cpu's were both under 10% ?

Any idea whats causing this or how I can diagnose this?

CPU: 0.2% usr 0.1% sys 0.0% nic 99.4% idle 0.0% io 0.0% irq 0.0% sirq
Load average: 0.01 0.05 0.05 1/102 10150

I saw a similar slowdown with 378.56_2, also on an RT-AC68U. The slowdown happened a few times and the one time I was able to get into the GUI I noticed one core was pegged at 100%.
http://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-378-56_2-is-now-available.27952/page-25#post-227276

I didn't know about the SSH command so don't have any logs. It eventually happened again so I finally moved to DD-WRT. Haven't seen the whole router slowdown since then but also have noticed my wireless speeds arent as good as with Merlin.

I need to check but seems that Asus has fixed this in GPL 380.1842. Do you plan to merge to this GPL on 380.58 final or once in beta no more Asus code updates until next release?

There's no GPL available for 1842. The only newer GPL I have is 2345, and it's beta and contains too many changes over 1354, so I don't want to merge it in the 380.58 release.

I backported the newer udpxy from 2345, so give the Beta 1 release a try.

Sorry, my fault. I don't know why I thought that the last number on firmware's version was the GPL number. For example, right now on Asus website and for AC68U you can find:

Code:
ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.1842
