Will AMTM also support NextDNS as installable addon?

Isn't asking here sort of that exactly? Now I know that's apparently a limitation.
Sure is, but IMHO the way you worded your posts above is not exactly encouraging.
We all here work hard in our free time, providing free (excellent) tools, firmware and exhaustive support.
Consider that first. A little reading and understanding would be appreciated.

A shell-based installer like amtm is actually BETTER than a GUI. In a GUI, you get a bunch of settings, with no idea as to what to click on. With a shell script, you will be guided through an interactive process, that will tell you step by step what to do, and how to do it.

So, a web version of amtm might actually be a step backward there in terms of usability for a large portion of the scripts it supports (assuming said scripts were to also inherit some kind of webui).

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

So, if I'm getting this right, I'll have to fire up SSH client just like before, but instead of inputting install noodle directly, I'll type "sh amtm" and the CLI will appear (like it appears for NextDNS once you have it installed) where I'll be able to pick supported and pre-configured addons. Correct?

What if there were a GUI option in 384.15 to invoke amtm automatically via /etc/ profile when someone logs in via SSH? For beginners...

Don't. Thanks.

You got it - simple as that. Once you have 384.15 installed just SSH - type amtm at the prompt - and follow the menu driven prompts.
Lots of Third Party add-ons already available with more following. However - add-ons MUST be well engineered and fully compatible with both Merlin Firmware and the consistent architecture of amtm code for all included scripts.

Use what you will and ignore the rest.
As to your original question - I have no idea when and even if NextDNS will make it into amtm - but as you suggest in your OP "stock Merlin FW and NextDNS don't really like each other very much" - you can't expect amtm to fix problems in NextDNS.

This has been discussed before. No paid-for scripts will make it into amtm or RMerlin firmware, of which NextDNS will be when it goes out of beta.

Just "amtm", no need for sh.

The addons won't be "pre-configured". If they require configuring, the installation process will guide you through the basic configuration, so they can be adjusted to your specific needs.

It will also be recommended to at least read that addon's documentation before doing so. The currently available addons have support links documented in the Wiki: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/AMTM

Knowing that this option exists and taking the time to go there to enable it would take 5x more time than just typing four letters followed by hitting Enter...

I think I saw that discussion, but I also think only users replied; not the authors of the firmware (@RMerlin) or amtm (@thelonelycoder)?

For what it's worth: Asuswrt-Merlin already includes services that have both a free and paid tier; for example OpenDNS.

PS: After the beta NextDNS will be free up until about 300,000 DNS queries/month (and $1.99/month for unlimited queries) - https://nextdns.io/pricing

@XIII but can we actually use the RMerlin firmware to install the paid-for tier?

Have an actual link to that conversation?

I don't think the paid-for tier of such services requires any other software/installation.

Most likely they already require an account for the service and you get into the paid-for tier by paying on their website.

Thanks for clarifying that Merlin. I thought initially that AMTM will be a menu driven feature like many others you've added. Now I know it'll still require SSH client, it'll just be CLI driven from there on instead of having to do it entirely manually like I had to install NextDNS. Also as L&LD said, no paid scripts will be included by default, kinda understand the logic there given this firmware is aimed to be free and open. This is what I was asking, maybe I worded it weirdly...

Would you consider offering some kind of "hook" so that users can manually add such scripts to amtm themselves?

I like the "check for update" feature in amtm; for me it would be nice if amtm also checked the NextDNS version.
To me that is an ethical question that answered itself a while ago. That said, I wish to not to discuss this at this time.

Once amtm is installed, you can issue the amtm command and it will present a menu to install various scripts that may be useful to you. I prefer the blue theme.... :)
