It would be useful to see somewhere on the site survey page my own channel numbers. When the control channel is set to auto on the General tab page the actually used channel can be checked only in the system log.

Good idea.

would it be possible to build the new firmware with the old wireless drivers, i really love some of the new features BUT on RT-N66U the 5ghz wireless is just useless with the later firmwares.

The one function not making me not go back to an earlier version is that since the betas i can assign "untagged" vlan as internet in the IPTV tab so that it works without my ISPs crappy equipment infront of the router.

Can't be easily done. The old driver crashes due to the other updates part of the newer SDK, would require a lot of work for something that would only be temporary

Not sure if its environmental or not but my signal seems a bit weaker (db in the -30's to db in the -40's) after upgrading. Probably in my head......LOL

The signal can vary between reboots based on the present interference at the time the router boots, at the time you read the signal strength, the channel that could change if it was left on Auto, etc...

There has been no change at all at the driver level in 354.28.

When you click on the site survey tab, the router automatically tries to do the site survey, even if both radios are off. It should first check the status of the radios and ideally put up a warning if one or both radios are off, and only run if at least one of the radios are enabled.

I'll look into displaying at least a warning, thanks.

Is the HW acceleration with ipv6 enabled fixed?
thanks,bigcid10

Asus decided to disable it with 354. No idea why, and since the HW acceleration code is closed-source and nobody but Asus/Broadcom knows what it actually does, there's nothing I can do.

I did have log DHCP queries enabled and still did not see DHCP logs is the syslog until applying the following

nvram set log_level=7
nvram commit
reboot

Now all is well

Note: after flashing to the latest build I did not wipe my nvram as I am too lazy to reconfigure all 17 of my static ip addresses

Think I know what the problem is. I do increase the log_level, but I forgot to also restart syslogd to make it take into account the change.

First the results reported seem highly variable. Sometimes I see three SSIDs other times eight to nine with signal strengths as low as 7%.

The actual scanning process is done by the closed-source driver. All I can do is take the list if returns, format it and display it.

Try switching to passive scanning - it will report more APs.

It might be possible to increase accuracy by making the scan longer, but I don't think it will be worth it. In addition to making scans annoyingly long, it would also be of little use - Site Survey is mostly meant to help you pick up a channel with the least amount of interference for your own configuration. An AP that barely register on the radar shouldn't be a factor when choosing which channel to use.

theres a big difference between active scan and passive scan.
Active scan shows about 8 neighbours and passive about 16.
All 2,4 band only.
I do not see any 5Ghz bands.

Just a small visual point:
It's a pity the size of the screen used to show the AP's is smaller so i have to scroll eacht time. There's more than enough space on the page to show more Ap's without scrolling.

Originally the Rescan button was at the bottom, which was the reason for me to not make it too long - it would have required too much scrolling to reach it.

Now that it was moved to the top I can easily increase the height a bit more however without any real side-effect.

@RMerlin

Just cometic. Why /jffs/scripts/umount? I think pre-umount name will fits better.

Mostly historical reasons. That script was implemented by someone else who supplied a patch. This was the earlier days of implementing user scripts, so I didn't really have a "standard" established yet for naming. Renaming it now would be a bad idea as it would break everyone's configuration that is using the current naming convention.

Hello Merlin, last beta 354.28 on ac66u is fantastic, and stable.

I am having the same problem of this post non ac66u and n66u with merlin builds since january http://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/issues/detail?id=398

I have run command
arp -a
arp -i vlan100 -s xx.xxx.xx.x 00:00:00:00:00:50

to make the problem least proeminent, but it occurs anyway for less time.

The problem only apears to happen to users of vodafone Portugal, I have a 400mb Down, 40 upload fiber service, other friends with n66u have 100mb Down 10 up, and the same problem occurs with them.

Is there some way of correcting this in future builds, or some command that makes this issue go away.

Thanks for your support, and help.

From what I can understand, that would mean a lot of tinkering to fix what essentially amounts to a single broken ISP (since it's specific to them).

No plan to do that at the moment, sorry. Too much code fiddling involved (I'm not even sure I really understand what the actual issue is), and no way for me to test this unique case I'm afraid.

Fixed support for Broadcom Wimax devices

What exactly was fixed? I have Clearwire Wifi hotspot (via FreedomPop) and it seemed to work fine connected via USB. I don't know if it is based on Broadcom chipset.

Devices that use the BeCeEm driver wouldn't work in 354.27b due to a missing driver.

5 GHz 40 MHz is unreliable with some wireless cards (RT-N66U)

I don't have any 5 GHz devices and keep 5 GHz radio off. Are there any other issues on RT-N66U related to wireless (and wired) connectivity related to broken drivers?

Not that I know, but then I don't use my RT-N66U as my main router, so I must rely on user feedback in this case for any extended testing. The 5 GHz 40 MHz issue was very visible however during my limited tests as I would flat out be unable to connect at all.

- FIXED: LAN traffic going through the NAT loopback would be counted in the Per IP traffic monitoring.

How much of an error (%-wise) did it introduce in previous versions where it was not fixed?

If you never access anything over the NAT loopback: 0%.
If you access the NAT loopback: anything that you actually transfer over the NAT loopback.

It's not a set average, it depends on whether you access any LAN resource over the NAT loopback or not.

Most of the suggestions for the Survey page (warnings on radio off, longer list) have been implemented.

For the currently used channels I decided instead to implement them in the Wifi status icon, so they can be viewed from anywhere on the webui.

Is Asus trying to implement what Linksys did a while ago forcing you to pass trough their servers in order to access the router's interface in this new versions ? I might be wrong but this is what seemed to me when I testes the first beta build a while ago.

Do I heve to make a fresh install if coming from another version number, the 270 for example ?

No, not at all. The router.asus.com hostname is resolved locally and points to your local router - nothing gets accessed through Asus's servers. And if for some reason they ever did something like that, this is something I would definitely disable in my builds.

Do I heve to make a fresh install if coming from another version number, the 270 for example ?

It's recommended to do so if coming from 270, as some default settings have changed with 354. Failing to do so might work, but it's not guaranteed - your router would keep using the old default values if these are set only the first time a router gets configured.

Possible Bug with DDNS

First off, thank you for all your hard work!

I use dnsomatic and I have noticed that the following is displayed at the top of the DDNS section now:

The host name is successfully registered. You can use "[hostname].asuscomm.com" to access the service in home network from WAN. Use "[hostname].asuscomm.com" to remotely access your network.
Go to Advanced Settings > WAN to configure the port forwarding or DMZ settings to allow other WAN clients to remotely access your network.

If you want to remotely configure the wireless router, go to here.

I believe this should only happen if you are using the ASUS ddns service, correct?

I tried to get the channels on my AC66U to show up as per your image posted above but for whatever reason the WIFI channels being used do not appear. I reset when I went from 270 to 354 as well...however I did not when going from 27 to 28 build. Any ideas on why the channel is missing. Thanks

That change was only done today, while the firmware was released yesterday.

So what do you use as your main router?

RT-AC66U. The RT-N66U is entirely devoted to development, which means I can flash, reboot or brick it as much as I want without affecting my network.

Looks like a bug either in the 354 code or the merge with 354 - it also does the same for me while I'm using DynDNS. I'll have to take a look at it.
