Make sure the Media Server is enabled, especially if you did a factory default reset. The media server will no longer default to being enabled after a factory default, as this was a security + performance issue. People plugging their hard disks containing their porn stash were unknowingly sharing with everyone else at home.

Some additional information for the speed drops I'm seeing on 380.59 that go away with 380.58.

It's actually a lot simpler than I mentioned previously - I think it's only the Upload speed getting set for both upload and download and not that they're actually flipped.

See the attached 3 test runs. My true speed is 25 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up.

Test #1 (perf1) = 25 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up. Speed Result: 5 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up.

Test #2 (perf2) = 25 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. Speed Result: 25 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up.

Test #3 (perf3) = 25 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Speed Result: 2 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up.

If I add the missing modules back, it won't resolve your issue for users with the original Asus firmware. You might have to consider including the necessary modules with your plugin.

I've upgraded my RT-AC87U to this firmware coming from 56_2 last night and it's been working flawlessly since then.

Just want to give some QoS/CoDel feedback:

My connection is rated 100mbits/s down, 20mbit/s up via VDSL.

I've capped the Download speed at 94mbit/s and the Upload speed at 18mbit/s. (those values are a few hundred kbit/s below the maximum speed I can get out of this connection)

- I've used fq_codel with the bandwidth limiter and performed extensive speed testing with my main focus on bufferbloat
- Using Adaptive QoS with the same speed cap values consistently gave me way better results
- Via Adaptive QoS, the high-res bufferbloat indicator almost never goes into the red area when using the DSLReports speed-test
- Using the bandwidth limiter and fq_codel and the same speed caps, it eventually enters the red area and maxes out the bufferbloat indicator for a while during every test run
- I could verify that using the bandwidth limiter with fq_codel is better than using *no* QoS at all, which would just cause extreme bufferbloat

Also worth noting: Reducing the tx_queue_length (?) does absolutely nothing. I had tried that a long time ago and have really tried to verify the effectiveness of this now again, but it doesn't change a thing.

So currently, using Adaptive QoS with the speed capped to the exact maximum real-life throughput that I can get over my connection (or a half-mbit below), seems to be the best QoS option and is also outperforming this CoDel implementation by far.


Keep up the good work! I have yet to experience any regressions in this firmware and my 5GHz Wi-Fi feels like I've got a totally new router!

I can check tonight if jffs has the same problem it had in version pre .58.
The symptoms are the same: no vpn.
I don't know if jffs is supposed to affect somehow the dhcp page.

I upgraded to 380.59 coming from 378.56-2, and had two serious issues:
* after logging in, I got to "index.asp" but it took virtually forever for the SSL connection to be established. When I entered another address (e.g. /Main_Analysis_Content.asp), it did work.
* my IPV6 rd tunnel stopped working. Ie. "ping6 google.com" from the router worked, but did not work for any host behind the router. The default IPV6 route for all hosts seemed to miss the 'static' part, because when I reverted back to 378.56-2, everything worked again flawlessly.
Hope this helps somewhat in debugging the issue. For now this release is not stable enough, unfortunately. Keep up the good effort !

Known issue mentioned earlier in the thread. You have to switch to HTTP, or try a different browser (the issue seems to be caused by a recent change in Google Chrome).

Then this is a regression, because it happened 2 releases ago and restarted working on. 58.
Now the question is whether that is in asus or merlin code

Its not because you see an Alpha bumped in Github it is avalaible
If you dont see it in Mediafolder,Test or Beta Folders its not there
If you want you could compile it and share us your compile

3G/4G not work corectly. I have failover settings with allow fail back, but when primary wan is back then router not switch to primary wan....only router reboot. On 9460 work ok.

Ac5300 with Merlin .59

after a few days with .59, there is in the client / view list, no device anymore visible.
Neither a reboot nor a shutdown via switch brought the device list back. Is there something I can do, except reflashing the image.

Confirmed, cannot write in jffs.
But now I wonder, if you select to not use jffs from the settings, where are VPN, icons, and so on written?

Anyway, last time I spent a long time restarting and formatting jffs with no luck, while rolling back release everything was back up and running, this time I am going to pass

That setting is only to enable/disable custom config and scripts. It has no effect on the JFFS partition itself. You have something else causing your JFFS partition to fail to mount.
