Asuswrt-Merlin 386.6 beta is now available, only for the GT-AX6000 and ZenWiFi Pro XT12.

April 13th: Beta 2 is now available.
Code:
d6866e6dc6 build: include *.pkgtb when generating sha256sums in build-all script
55d4a59cba webui: remove duplicate setting on Samba config page; remove legacy length check
2cb3accb13 rc: shared: webui: fix JFFS custom scripts/config support on UBI models; hide jffs fomating on these as it's currently not working
329cbad359 webui: remove duplicate setting on DDNS page (got added by upstream GPL merge)
2df45c7992 Bumped revision to beta 2

The focus of this release is the addition of these two new models to the list of supported devices, in addition to a few other improvements.

Summary of changes:
  • Merged with GPL 386_47885
  • Added support for the ZenWiFi Pro XT12
  • Added support for the GT-AX6000 (with the non-ROG webui and without VPNFusion, like other supported ROG models)
  • Added new IPv6 options to OpenVPN servers, allowing to disable/enable IPv6 support, and also to enable NAT (allowing remote clients to also redirect their IPv6 Internet traffic through their router's OpenVPN server
  • Updated components: wget (1.21.3), dropbear (2022.82)
  • Allow requesting bigger IPv6 subnets from your ISP
  • Fixed Traditional QoS download traffic limited by upstream bandwidth

Please consult the Changelog for the complete list of changes.

These two new models are based on a new SDK (HND 5.04), which includes a new Kernel version (4.19.183), so pretty much everything will need to be thoroughly tested. Note that as usual, anything wifi-related is closed source and therefore outside of my control.

Please keep discussions in this thread on the topic of this release and these two new models.

Known issues:
  • Not really a firmware issue, but the SHA256 hashes didn't get published to the servers by the build process. I will manually publish them later.
  • Duplicate setting on the SMB disk sharing and the DDNS setting (Fixed for beta 2)
  • jffs2_scripts nvram setting is missing after a factory default reset (Fixed for beta 2)

This is awesome, thank you for adding support for the GT-AX6000!

I had some time to install 386.6 beta 1 this evening over the stock asus firmware and things are working pretty well so far (about 2 hours in)!

I ran a factory reset after installing and ran in to the known issue with the jffs2_scripts nvram setting being missing, but I was able to add it manually via SSH to work around that for now and got a custom script working for now, but the admin interface is still not showing the JFFS scripts option as enabled.

I also had some difficulties related to changing the router's IP / DHCP IP Pool settings / IPv6 settings from their defaults. After changing any one of these settings, my desktop connected via the 2.5 gbit LAN port was unable to send/receive network traffic with the router or receive a new DHCP lease. Disconnecting and reconnecting the network cable or disabling & re-enabling network adapter on the desktop did not help. I was still able to connect via WiFi when this was happening and access the router configuration pages no problem. After waiting a while to see if things would recover, I rebooted the router and that fixed things immediately for the 2.5gbit port desktop, and things were back to working normally. I changed all 3 of these settings, and this same scenario played out for all 3 of these times. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong on the desktop side, but I haven't experienced an issue like this with merlin firmware on my RT-AX88U.

Other than that everything seems to be running smoothly so far! I'll keep poking at it.

Connecting at 2.5gbps to my ISP with a 5 port 2.5 gbps switch for my desktop and NAS. Everything wired is running at 2.5gbps end to end finally with the GT-AX6000, plus 28 wifi clients and openvpn client and server all up and running exactly as expected so far.

Thanks again for your work on this new version!

Loaded beta 1 on the GT-AX6000.
Looking good so far.
Issue from on the alpha on the Firewall - Network Services Filter page is gone.
Connection speed looks normal.

Now XT12 users can change their main router GT-AX11000 to this XT12.. What a beast combination.

Fixed Traditional QoS download traffic limited by upstream bandwidth ?

if thats What i tihnk it is i thought that Would Never Get fixed ....

I see this beta is only for select models... Are we dropping down to only supporting these two models?
No, other models will still be supported in the next release (386.7), so this was an exception to the norm.

See the official word from RMerlin here:

Thank you. I thought RMerlin was ready to make the work load easier. Didn't suspect a release just to support two new models though. Definitely off the RMerlin norm for sure.

So does the GT-AX6000 also work for the RT-AX89X? I managed to come upon three of these that I want to test RMerlin on.

They're not identical.

One is the RT-AX89X and the supported one is the GT-AX6000. Model numbers are important.

So which ASUS Merlin supported router is currently then the “money no object, top of the bill, the dog’s bollocks“ is it the XT12? I want to replace my AC5300 with the best main router to match my AX86u upstairs (need 2.5gbit wired backhaul) and now have several AX wireless clients. My provider will move to 2.5gb Docsis modems soon as well.

is there an advantage replacing the AX86u as well and buy a XT duopack? Or is it just cosmetics? The AX86u is just used as mesh access point with wired backhaul. (Currenlty 1gbit)
