The future-proof plan is to buy a separate x86 mini PC and run OpenWrt or Debian or pfSense or OPNsense and leave these Asus devices to function as Access Points only.
I can honestly say that Adaptive QoS still works very well for HND routers with custom iptable rules added & FC disabled (Auto mode). Once you remove all iptables and FC is enabled again...not so much.Adaptive QoS and hardware acceleration have changed enough lately that the old tricks no longer work. And the latest Trend Micro signature file makes the application classification quite useless.
