I didn't touch the AiMesh settings at all.

Do you have any AiMesh connected at the moment or no? If you don't then I don't expect you to have the issue at all.

I Don't know why, but switching to a pc on Windows 11 did bring back the wireless set up page onto screen properly, and I was able to set the wireless bands.

My wireless page comes back if my AiMesh nodes are offline. Not unpaired. Just offline. And when they reconnect the wireless page disappears again.

Here is another issue needing help.

I see overall improvements on signal strength with 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, but the two 6GHz bands are horrible, I can only get a good 6GHz connection within 10 to 15 feet away with both Samsung S21Utra or S23Ultra phones. The signals dropped off completely when I am out of that range and the phones automatically switched connection back to the 5GHz band. 😭

I have left all wireless settings to default and haven't changed anything else except the SSIDs and wireless key.

Any thoughts anyone please?

All WiFi is closed source Merlin has no control over it. Any improvements you have seen are not from the firmware.

@RMerlin Did Asus send you the latest GPL of the latest GT-BE98 Pro firmware?

Thanks for reminding and I understand that.

I would expect the 6GHz bands be reaching farther and wider than 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands in general......

I am just trying to see if anyone here has similar problems or it is just me; or have I missed anything with the settings that might have caused it?; or could it be a hardware thing? or......;)

Just found my answer after searching through the internet world....."Higher frequencies always mean shorter radio broadcasting ranges" .."The 5GHz band has a shorter range than the 2.4GHz one. So, naturally, the 6GHz band is likely behind the former".

🤪
stupid me to have assumed 6GHz should have a farther and wider range 😜

Oh well, learned something useful today.

I suspect 102_36xxx and higher cannot downgrade to older versions such as the one on which 3006.102.2 is based, until I get updated GPL, which will happen God knows when.
Looking forward to this update, but on the BE98 non pro version. I live in Japan, and this router with the latest official firmware is not compatible with my Internet provider. Even ASUS' latest update tried to fix my issue (OCNVC), but it did not work. Your firmware is my last recourse. May I ask, does your firmware support IPoE (IP4 over IP6) and DHCPv6-PD? According to my internet service provider, I need a router compatible with that, and even the cheapest POS wireless router here is compatible... all except ASUS. I want to cry.

WAN support is unchanged from the stock firmware, as I have no way of testing and maintaining exotic connection methods that are only used by very specific ISPs.

First post, second paragraph.
Ok but it dont say if you received source code for GT-BE98 Pro Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_37031?

I see. I want to try your firmware anyway, so I will look forward to it, and thank you very much for your work. By the way, this exotic connection method is, like I said, supported by every single manufacturer in Japan, and I know that even TP-Link works. It is just IPoE for 10G connections. I suspect that it has to be some setting in the original firmware, like firewall or so, which is the issue. If I had access to a log, it would be easier to troubleshoot, but I cannot do that with the official firmware, AFAIK.

Anyway, once your firmware is available, and if I figure out the issue, I will share here to see if this helps anyone :)

Nothing has changed in the last week since I posted that I hadn't received any GPL update in months. and there is no ETA as to when I will receive updated GPL code either.

I recommend contacting Asus about it. I know they already support some of the more esoteric implementations like MAP-E, so they would be your best chance to have it eventually implemented (or debugged).

Thank you for the suggestion. I have a case open with them, and they issues ASUS GT-BE98 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_36855 to try to solve my issue, but it is still no change, so while I wait I thought to try out other options. This router is almost double the price in Japan than anywhere else, so it is painful to have it sit it around with no solution in view. Like I said, at least an error log would help with troubleshooting.

Perfect timing! I just purchased a ASUS router for the first time (RT-BE88U) and setting it up with the latest stock firmware.
Spent over 2 hours trying to get DNS-over-TLS and just gave up.

I stumbled upon this Merlin firmware, installed it, and was able to setup DNS-over-TLS without any issues.
Reading the change log I notice this gem:
"FIXED: DNS over TLS broken if IoT Guest Network (or other Guest Network sharing existing VLAN) is disabled. (patch from Asus)"

I can't believe this still hasn't been patched in their official firmware yet...
Anyways, thank you RMerlin!

After installing 3006.102.2 on the GT-BE98_Pro, "Fault Default" reset, then a "Hard Factory Reset". Then carefully reconfigured all my settings I've documented, testing/watching each Add-On (my signature line) as some not actively supported anymore ( 😢 ). Approx. 50 odd clients in this household, everything has run perfectly over the last seven days (yippee).
Thanks @RMerlin for all the work, skills you provide for us. Some $$$ for a "good bottle"coming your way, on behalf of the household! Thanks again.

Awesome. Finally made the transition off WRT and to Merlin firmware recently. I feel incredibly stupid for not doing it sooner.

A few quick questions when you have a minute:
  1. I can't turn on NFSD on my GT-BE98 Pro. Everytime I enable it, it attempts to apply the change, but then turns back off. User error or bug?
  2. Thinking about replacing my GT-AC2900 in AP mode with the RT-BE92U before the end of the year. Are you planning on supporting this model?
  3. Probably extremely low on your list (if at all) but would love to have the ROG GUI for the GT-BE98 Pro.
