That's what it will do - turn the LEDs on and off. Works fine here.

As I said, those settings are NOT controlable on the web interface, so they are unrelated to any changes you might have done. They are applied by the firmware that was running last time you did a factory default reset. This is why doing a factory default reset is necessary after an upgrade, to apply updated settings.

USB 3.0 disks can interfere with 2.4 GHz wifi. The option to reduce interference will force the USB3 port to run at USB2 speeds to reduce interference (which isn't always compatible with some USB3 disks).

When I got the router, I updated to latest OEM, did a reset, installed your latest, did a 30-30-30 and that's about it. Should be ok?

That's what it will do - turn the LEDs on and off. Works fine here.

i have upgraded to the latest build and have problems with the OpenVPN client 1. I have done a factory reset and upgraded, did a couple of resets before and after the upgade 374.42_2.
This worked okay in 374.41.

Finally sorted the issue with a few more factory reset. so no problem any more/

Hi,

Stopp doing factory resets BEFORE upgrade: This makes no sense as you rest to the OLD firmware settings.
Just do the reset AFTER upgrading to the new firmware version for the NEW firmware settings!

Then do the minimum configuration you need to beome operational and immediatly try out your issue. The more settings you change the more diffcult it might be to isolate the problem.

There is nothing like "30-30-30 reset" on Asus routers! Why people alway think this is there?

Just to a normal FACTORY RESET and you are fine!
There are multiple ways of doing it: Via GUI, via WPS button, ... you can read the details in many forum postings!

I read in other comments that the LEDs are actually software controlled via the button. Are there some FW settings for the LEDs that could be in conflict?

This is not a major issue, I just want to make sure I don't have a defective unit.

I never did try to turn the LEDs off on OEM firmware as I flashed Merlins right away.

EDIT: With 374.42_0 my LED on/off button did nothing. Now with 374.42_2 it works as it should again.

Maybe just a bug on my side, but nice that it's ok now either way.

Samba & Cherokee web server with 42

Hi,
I have a USB data stick plugged into the USB port and from this I have a samba share across my LAN. I also have cherokee web server running on it which provides an intranet for our home devices. Cherokee is started by a script which runs when the USB data stick is mounted. It all works very well.

Currently, I'm on .40 and I'm looking at moving to .42. I've read there are big changes to samba etc. with 42, am I likely to find I can't get my intranet to work after I upgrade?

Any advice appreciated.

There is no 374.42_2 for the RT-AC66U since it was only meant to address teh Time Machine issue.

Recommended, but not mandatory for this router. Try and see for yourself, you'll see if Wifi exhibits any issues.

Hi guys, Noob here. Just upgraded to 42 and factory reset my N66U. I have Comcast with 105/10. Right now, after playing with different settings, 2.4GHz is getting around 50mbps while 5GHZ is solid at 110mbps. I have tried all channels, but to no avail, is 2.4GH capped at 50mbps?

This is my current setting:
wireless mode: n only
channel bandwidth: 20 mhz
control channel: 11
authentication method: wpa2-personal
wpa encryption: AES
network rotation interval: 3600

Someone said to put max mW value of 200 on "Professional" tab but still doesn't give much improvement. Currently is set at default 80.

please let me know if you guys need more info. appreciate the help on this.

Dual WAN issues

I have a problem with Dual WAN setup in Fail over mode.
Main WAN is PPPoE ("Enable VPN + DHCP Connection" disabled), fail over connection is l2tp (+dynamic private ip to connect to the l2tp server). After startup both WAN connections are up (I can see 1 WAN ip on the Primary WAN and 2 ips on Secondary WAN on the network map).
When I unplug the cable from the main WAN port, both WAN connections get reset. The main WAN connection can't start (cable unplugged), the dynamic ip on the secondary WAN gets renewed, but the l2tp connection doesn't initialize. Here is the full log after I disconnected the cable:

If I make the WAN port with l2tp connection the main one, the fail over on the WAN with PPPoE works fine, but the fail back to the main WAN port with l2tp as soon as I reinsert the cable doesn't work either (l2tp doesn't start up).

The value will only take effect if your router is configured for a regulatory region where that power level is permissible.

A doubling of the power level will not make that much of a difference, but it could make a marginal connection better.

20 MHz will give you half the bandwidth of the 40 MHz width you are probably using on the 5 GHz band, so this looks normal to me, assuming a dual stream connection.

Tried it, but had to go back to 374.39 on RT-N66u. My USB modems did not work for me on .42.

If you need something me to try something or produce a log, let me know what and how and I will try to do so when I am back home - currently out of town.

Cherokee ac68u

Can't get cherokee to work. I walked though the wiki from Merlin's link. When I get to the step ipkg install cherokee it loads the files then warns it cannot read the cherokee conf file and another cherokee lib file. I Scp'ed into the usb/router and both the filers are there, in the correct locations, and have read write permissions. It's a usb 3 flash drive formatted ext2? Any ideas. Cherokee will not start. I've done the ipkg update as well. I'm puzzled, others don't seem to have this issue. FYI, on the lastest merlin build, ac68u.
