Asuswrt-Merlin 374.42_2 is out

Issue with dnsmasq

I am having a little bit of an issue with .42_2 on AC68. I set my router so an AD I am running on the Win 2012R2 can be found by the workstation ( I followed http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13871 post to do so). After updating to .42_2 the AD domain controller can not be found by workstations. After upgrade I did checked that /jffs/configs/dnsmasq.conf.add and /jffs/configs/hosts.add are in place, have correct content and correct permissions. I would appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. For now I am back to .41

If your router is using your AD DNS, make sure you enable the option to have local domain queries forwarded to the WAN DNS, under LAN -> DHCP Server.

There's been a few hundred downloads for the RT-N16 and no one else has reported that issue, so I have to assume this is a problem with your router or your configuration. Try a factory default reset, and reconfigure your settings.

Just a question.

Is it possible for some future release to change the behaviour on the WPS button a bit?

I use this button to sometimes toggle the radio.
On my 2.4GHz radio I have a scheduler running. (5GHz normally off.)
When I use the button, to switch on the 5GHz radio, the scheduler always gets switched off.
On both radios.

Would be nice if the scheduler settings are remembered, or at least are left alone.

That's how it used to work, and I had users complaining about this particular behaviour - they want the off button to be a real off button, not just a toggle that could be overridden by some forgotten scheduler settings. So in the end, I ended up sticking with Asus's behaviour in stock firmware because it made the most sense to me (and would also be more predictable from users used to it working in a certain way in the stock firmware).

Amazing, how can a user complain if they set the scheduler themselves? (Default = off)

Hey guys, just wanted to share some results I had moving from 374.41 -> 374.42.

Absolutely no changes made other than the FW version and I noticed a 1 to 2 MBs decrease in speed when copying a 1GB file to and from the router. I roll back to 374.41 and the speeds increase ( back to the usual steady 4.5MBs whereas with 374.42 it was a steady 2.5-3.0 MBs ). Repeated FW upgrades/downgrades to confirm that the only thing changing was the FW version.

Guess I'll stay at 374.41 for now, unless anyone has experienced a similar issue and resolved it?

Oh, and thanks Merlin for your hard work. It is appreciated by people like myself who hardly ever post in these forums, but just read them instead.

Don't Windows AD services expect you to also run the DNS on the DC for proper functionality?

RMerlin, running DNS on the same the same server as AD is not required. I have a mix of domain/workgroup devices and trying to avoid interuptions when I am taking the server down. Having the router handle DHCP/DNS and passing the AD to the server works fine in .41 firmware, but stopped working with .42_2.

Asus RT-AC68U reboots every 2 days since version 374.40.
Version 374.42_2 did not fixed the issue.
I am checking the logs but no good information is there.
I am using Optware with transmission, minidlna, samba, 500MB SWAP, no OC, temperatures are good (2.4 GHz: 55°C - 5 GHz: 56°C - CPU: 85°C).

It gets really frustrating!

The SDK5 build was discontinued months ago, as a new specialized driver was integrated in the RT-N66U build.
