Set DNS Filtering on with a global default of no filtering. Selected one of the clients to OpenDNS Home (for example) and then changed to Comodo and reapplied the setting. Filter remained on OpenDNS despite Comodo being chosen. Filter always appears to remain on the previously selected filter whenever Comodo is selected.

I can't reproduce it here.
 
Based on other changes I've seen in recent GPL releases, I have a feeling that Asus might be moving away from a lot of these helper tools such as radvd, and refocusing on dnsmasq in the near future.

So in short, IPv6 code is in a highly volatile stage at this time.

yeah, I hope you do freeze the GPL you use, ipv6 is all over the place what asus are doing feels like alpha coding.

Maybe only use the newer asus code for the new asus models and more stable code for older?

Merlin a feature request, can you add an option to specify the http port for web ui? currently only https port can be chosen. Even if its only a cli command to change it be appreciated.

I also used to use DNSmasq as the defacto IPv6 prefix delegation agent and IPv6 DHCP sever vs. all the other "helpers" that Asus uses. I hope they go that direction.

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the default file path for the TimeMachine backups? Currently, its set to my 2TB drive on its shared root directory. I would love to either hide these files, or put them in a specific folder tucked away safely (and neatly).

The wl0_ and wl1_ variables are not in the CFE. These are the values in the CFE:

Interestingly though is that while these values are also in the nvram, they are not copied to nvram on reboot. Instead, only the wl0_ and wl1_ variables are copied from the CFE, most likely from the regulatory_domain values (?)

While these values can be changed and commited to nvram, they are restored to the values found in the CFE when restart_wireless is executed.
 
Hello everyone.

My first post here though I've been this forum for a while. I observed one issue on 376.44 + RT-AC56U (which I'm not very sure if anyone else reported yet).

I have a 100Mbps connection (which is quite common at the place I live). Speedtest.net tests usually show ~95Mbps both up and down. My connection is very stable and consistent (at least from speedtest.net tests).

After upgraded to 376.44, the speed was good for a day or two, then degraded to ~20Mbps up and ~10Mbps down. Reboot RT-AC56U brings back to 95Mbps up and down. However, after another day or two, the speed again degrades to ~20Mbps up and ~10Mbps down. A reboot will immediately bring back the full speed.

When this issue happens, not only the WAN connection is degraded but the local links too. Speed of file transfer between RT-AC56U and PC is severely impacted.

For now I downgraded to 374.43_2 which does not have this issue with my RT-AC56U.

I have unplugged HDD and checked it using chkdsk. It found some errors with USN journal and fixed them successfully. However, when I connected HDD back to router it shows the same problem.

Seems to be a bug in the new storage driver that Asus is using, I'm having the same problem on the latest Asus and Merlin firmware, rolling back to 374 will get rid of the error. Did for me anyways, give it a try.
 
Anyone know if it is possible that the rt-n66u routers that were made after the sdk 6 firmware was released may have been tuned for that driver instead. Could this explain why there are so many people claiming different wifi results?

I just went from 376.44 merlin build all the way back to the 374.35_4 sdk 5 build on my rt-n66u. Which came with sdk 6 firmware on it when I bought it.

Guess what... there was absolutely no difference in the wireless signal atleast for me in those two drivers.

...and yes I cleared the nvram, reset all the settings the way I like them and did the whole chabang!

It could be that the routers that were made and released with the old sdk 5 firmware have better signal with the sdk 5 driver and maybe even better overall signal the newer rt-n66u routers that are coming out now with the sdk 6 firmware pre-installed out of the box.


Merlin do you have any idea about my question?
 
If a new user wants to try the Merlin firmware on a new RT-N66U, is the best procedure to load the latest version, then try different versions in reverse order if issues are found?

While I normally enjoy tinkering like this, my time these days is pretty limited and I really need critical stuff (that affects internet connectivity) to just work... at least until I have time to tinker! ;)
 
Should I uncheck all tcp packets to make them the same priority in qos if I only use qos for each individual device on my network by entering their mac address and setting their priorities?

I'm having speed issues and I'm curious if that would cause that because it seems to me like if you have all of the devices on your network added to qos and prioritized correctly that my internet speed would stay where it is supposed to which is my internet speed I get from my ISP. With the exception of my limit on upload speed, of course.

I have been having the tcp packets set to default as in ack, syn and icmp packet set to high priority. I've been wondering If these should actually be unchecked in my situation?

The router doesn't have enough RAM to fully process the filesystem as it's trying to check for errors.
 
Experiencing this new issue with build 376.44, my drive has been working fine attached for over a year. It's now getting the following message, I have disconnected it and ran chkdsk and scan disk from windows, no issues reported. Anyone have any ideas?

I tried Merlin's 376.44 on a friend's RT-AC56U. I upgraded from Merlin's 374.33 to 376.44 and I used this method:
1. Clear nvram (used WPS button method)
2. Upgraded to 376.44
3. Clear nvram again (used WPS button method)
4. Restored factory default (on webui)
5. Full manually setup (no upload any older backup)
6. Power off, power on the router
Impressions:
- wifi performance (with same setup and conditions) little bit worse, 5-10% throughput degradation (but maybe it in the margin of error, because I see 10-12 wifi router around my flat, so it's a high and variable traffic area)
- I cannot test the range difference, because my flat is to small
- the samba performance seems same (method: 1TB 2.5" WD RED HDD, FAT32, USB3 enclosure (chipset ASMedia ASM1051) connected to router usb3 port (3G stick connected to usb2 port), copy large files (summ. 6GB) to my desktop (wired 1Gb connection))
- 3G stick work well, same as on 374.33 (ZTE MF669T)
Problems:
- after 10 hour (at morning) the second cpu core fully load continuously (100%), checked with top command via SSH and I saw I/O wait using 100% the second core. I cannot did a deeper investigation, unmounted and disconnected the usb hdd, but no effect, disconnected 3G stick but no effect.
- after 10 hour (at morning) the router minidlna service not visible on the network, on webui showed running and idle state (the samba service worked well).

Finally I revert back.
 
Using the WPS method or any other method to clear NVRAM is not needed a simple factory reset will get the job done.
